The service and decor are fine. The food is terrible. The gumbo was broth and rice. The chicken from the kids menu was black. The shrimp and grits was cold. Go next door to Miller’s!

Located in the old Galvez Hotel in Galveston. This is a beautiful restaurant set next to an opulent lobby area. Two of us dining. The menu's food choices were excellent and the preparation was very good. The fish catch of the day was red snapper and was served almandine style. Not quite as good as Galatoire's in New Orleans, but still very good. The red snapper, served Ponchartrain-style, was also very good. The green beans were under-cooked as typical. The risotto was a bit chewy for my taste. Drinks were very good, but at $17 they were pricey when ordered at 6 pm. Our favorite was the scallops appetizer. Nicely prepared with a bit of red pepper spice. Free parking and valet. We will go back.

We ate at the Monarch on New Year's Eve and were very disappointed in the food. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which consisted of three one inch round bites of crab cake a a few sprigs of wilted arugula. . We expected a bit more for $17. I ordered the Shrimp and grits. The grits were cold and flavorless and in a solid mass. Not creamy at all and it had very little sauce. My husband had the tenderloin which was way too rare and served with just two small asparagus spears and two thin slices of potato wedges, Our waiter, John was very attentive and personable. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful, but the food was sub par, especially for the price. I would not eat here again.

Great experience if you want a nice, leisurely brunch. There were plenty of gluten free options and the free flowing mimosas were a dream. Loved the salad and seafood station. The prime rib was also outstanding

Crab was served with no drawn butter or way to crack crab. Waiter got melted butter and pliers for cracking. No small fork for picking crab meat. Desserts were mostly different kinds of cookies. Puddings were same w/different toppings. Salads , breads, vegetables and entrées were very good!! Wait staff excellent!!!!
