The ceviche was so fresh and flavorful. The filet was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The cocktail “The Bees Knees” was delightfully tasty. Service was excellent and ambiance was a refreshing change from the usual dark and loud.

A horrible experience, the waitress took a while to serve us, we waited for the food for an hour when the place wasn't even full and the taste of the food was not very pleasant and a bit salty.

Service was lacking in a severe way. Unsure if our waitress could speak English since there was zero engagement and an obvious obligatory filling of the water glasses, but that's it. The restaurant was "out" of the desserts we ordered after a 12 minute wait. The place is beautiful but needs HELP!!! I ordered the Market Catch & Shrimp Salad. Mediocre, at best, and was not anywhere near the menu description... the current menu on their website is not the menu we were presented with.

There is a wide choice of items on the buffet. However, such common items such as mashed potatoes, green beans, cobblers, pies, soft serve ice cream, cottage cheese, pizza and various types of salads are not available. While the level of service is very good, the walk from the veranda room to the main buffet is quite long and the additional room for seating appears almost to be an overflow room and out of the mainstream of the buffet. This is the most pricey buffet I've ever experienced, and while very good, does not justify the high cost nor is it the best I've ever had. In short, there is no compelling reason to return.

Highly recommend the Monarch Restaurant in the Grand Galvez Hotel in Galveston. It was outstanding. Redfish with Pontchartrain sauce, rice, and green beans; ribeye steak; all cooked to perfection. Service was OUTSTANDING. Excellent environment, quiet where you could talk, background music only. An elegant but unstuffy setting tucked away from the grandeur and hubbub of the hotel. We will be back. I am SO GLAD we chose to go to the Monarch for dinner. Also, you can valet park at the hotel and your parking fee is comped if you have dinner at the hotel. That was a nice surprise too. I expected a $20 parking fee. Instead, gave larger tips to the terrific valet staff. IF you have not been to the Grand Galvez, it's worth a visit, even if just for a meal and viewing the exquisite renovation of this historic property.

The service and decor are fine. The food is terrible. The gumbo was broth and rice. The chicken from the kids menu was black. The shrimp and grits was cold. Go next door to Miller’s!

Located in the old Galvez Hotel in Galveston. This is a beautiful restaurant set next to an opulent lobby area. Two of us dining. The menu's food choices were excellent and the preparation was very good. The fish catch of the day was red snapper and was served almandine style. Not quite as good as Galatoire's in New Orleans, but still very good. The red snapper, served Ponchartrain-style, was also very good. The green beans were under-cooked as typical. The risotto was a bit chewy for my taste. Drinks were very good, but at $17 they were pricey when ordered at 6 pm. Our favorite was the scallops appetizer. Nicely prepared with a bit of red pepper spice. Free parking and valet. We will go back.
