Since Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink first opened in the Miami Design District in spring of 2007, diners have come to embrace and crave its refreshing combination of laid-back atmosphere and seriously good food, a neighborhood bistro that is the ultimate showcase for the type of cuisine that chef/owner Michael Schwartz does best – homemade, unpretentious, delectable, with an emphasis on great local ingredients. Bon Appétit Magazine wrote in 2022 "Michael's Genuine is refreshingly approachable yet upscale, offering guests a true neighborhood gem where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy simple, consistently delicious dishes." In 2022 and 2023, the first Florida MICHELIN Guide honored the restaurant with a Bib Gourmand awards.

    Always been a fan of this place. Food always great as it was this time. But they had a loud band playing which we’ve never experienced. Unfortunately we couldn’t hear our friends who were visiting from out of country.

    Awesome experience at Michael’s Genuine! Food, waitress, hostess were all outstanding! I spotted an error on menu for my favorite pricey wine ($75 vs $750) and Michael let us have it for the listed price! Will certainly return soon!

    It had been a long time since our last visit to MGFD (+7 years). Decided to take my wife for her birthday as we both remembered this awesome restaurant when driving by it a few weeks ago. Food was amazing as we remembered it. We ordered the Tuna Carpaccio (our favorite of the night), crispy pork belly (amazing!), the cauliflower shawarma, and the short ribs (overcooked and a bit dry). For drinks, my wife ordered wine by the glass (9oz. - $41!) and I ordered an old-fashioned. Was asked what bourbon I wanted, I said Angel’s Envy but was brought one with Bullit because they were out of AE, which I was only informed after I was already drinking it. In all fairness, the waiter offered to replace it if I didn’t like it but I feel the proactive thing to do was to tell me before making it and not have to waste a drink (I hate wasting food or drinks for no reason). We arrived at 9:45p when closing at 11:00p. The whole time we felt rushed to order, I barely finished mentioning I wanted to order something when he wanted to walk away and had to stop him to tell him i wanted more food item. Plus, we were not offered any guidance on plates and the waiter came to pick up the plates when still working on the meals several times. Overall, the food was good but in this day and age where there are many options to eat out, and many where the kind of money you spend at this restaurant ($232 before tip) will get you great food AND service, I am not sure we will return to MFGD anytime soon. It’s a shame because we looked forward to it. I feel like we could have gone to a another place to get good food, perhaps not as good ambiance but most likely for a LOT LESS money. I believe part of the reason you pay for places like this one is not only the food but the experience as a whole.
