Mawn is a noodle house with “no rules,” and the first restaurant for Chef Phila Lorn and his wife Rachel, who bring with them close to 20 years of experience in Philly’s restaurant scene. Phila, pronounced “Pee La,” broken English for Philadelphia, is a first-generation Cambodian-American chef. The first in his family to be born here, his parents and siblings came to Philadelphia as refugees in 1985 after surviving the war in Cambodia.

Mawn, which means “chicken” in Khmer, the Cambodian language, represents more than one thing. To Phila, chicken was at every meal growing up, and to his parents, chicken represented peacetime. During the war and genocide of the Cambodian people, there was mostly only what was found in nature to eat, including rice and salt. If there was chicken, it meant no war. At the end of that dark time, recipes were lost, and culture was wiped out, but through survival, a new authenticity was born.

This means, the dishes are chosen by our chef and team to give you the full Mawn experience. All dishes are served family style and explained as they are brought to the table. Specials and oysters are not included but may be added on as well as any other dishes.

I had an amazing dinner at Mawn with my boyfriend, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The atmosphere was inviting, and every dish we tried from the appetizers to dessert was delicious. Our favorite was the Khai Soi. Every dish was bursting with rich, complex flavors. The entire experience was a 10/10, and we’re already excited to come back!

Every dish was so delicious, and the service was very good as well. Definitely recommend going for the Puck & See chef’s tasting so you can enjoy a variety of dishes with your dinner party. Mawn exceeds the hype, I will absolutely be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

We tried the Puck and See in which the chef chooses the menu and every single dish was amazing. I especially loved the whole fish, the melon salad, and the jasmine rice pudding.

One of the best restaurants in Philadelphia! Took some friends yesterday who said that the meal was one of their top 5 ever! The chef’s choice menu is a great deal for $65. If you’re lucky enough to score a reservation, you will have an incredible dining experience!! ❤️❤️❤️

Overrated. Expensive. We were told we had to leave because people were waiting for our table - but there were at least 5 empty tables for 2 like ours. Expected more noodle dishes on the menu.

Easily my favorite restaurant in Philly. Mawn is Phila Lorn’s cozy ‘no-rules’ noodle house with an intimate and buzzing atmosphere. Dishes are packed with bold spices, vibrant heat, bright citrus, complex broths, and perfectly cooked noodles. You literally can’t choose wrong — but some of my favorites are the head on soft shell shrimp, banh chow salad, prohok dip, khao soi, crab fried rice, + Mawn noodle soup. And don’t sleep on the funnel cake! The serving team is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and enthusiastic. Do yourself a favor and set an alarm for the first of the month and see if you can snag a reservation!
