Best Holiday special place for amazing Russian food! Lovely decor as well. The Siberian drink was excellent. Save room for some Naploeon and Medovik too!

Let me start by saying that Mari Vanna is o e of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Several of my Russian friends suggested I go there and u have been a huge fan ever since, and each time I am in town for work or pleasure I make sure to eat there. Yesterday was a somber day for me. My partner passed away of stage for colon cancer earlier this year and we wanted to pay tribute by doing some of our favorite New York Things and places to eat. Everything was perfect till the very end. I am appalled at how rudely I was treated. Our server a cute but shy younger girl who gave us the best service and suggestions on food. She was wonderful!!! The food could not have hit the spot any better, spot on as always and just delicious! The atmosphere so warm and cozy for a cold December day. Our Bill came and I noticed we had been charged $25 for water. I politely mentioned it to our server, and she said ok I’ll remove it! I might add she had a look of terror on her face. Next thing you know this tall aggressive (Asian??) woman stormed over to our table with an attitude . I explained we had asked for tap water, and though that’s what we had been drinking. She immediately accused us of knowing we were drinking EVIAN water and were just trying to not pay for it. I said the server had opened both bottles and we hadn’t paid much attention to the top of the bottle which the aggressive barracuda insisted we k ew it was EVIAN water. She got so loud and in our face that she truly embarrassed herself. With her nasty looks and attitude there was no way I was paying for the water. I told her I did not appreciate her attitude and that I frequently come to Mari Vanna and spend a few hundred dollars at minimum each time I am there. Clearly she never learned you don’t in a customers face. Shame on you for being so rude to me and my family in what was supposed to be a day to remembering my partner who also loved Mari Vanna and is no longer with us. Shame on you!!

Every item we ordered was delicious and abundant: the pumpkin salad, potato/onion dumplings, zucchini pancakes, risotto with butterfish, chicken kiev, caviar/blini with cured salmon, Napolean cake (it was not a slice as we expected but actually a small cake that could easily feed four people). The chili infused vodkas were amazing. Service was excellent, and the piece-de-resistance is the incredibly beautiful and charming environment of the restaurant, real eye-candy.

Our dinner exceeded our expectations. The restaurant was cozy, feeling like we were in someones living room. The service was attentive and kind. The dishes we ordered were simply divine. The bread was delicious too, as were all the dishes shared. The herring was my favorite but the dumlings, the duck, the lamb shank were also outstanding. The desserts were a glorious ending to our meal. The infused vodkas we drank were spectacular.
