Magpie is a family owned and operated independent restaurant in Midtown Sacramento. Since 2005, Magpie has served farm to table fare that reflects the values of life in California’s Central Valley. Our menu has an interesting mix of dishes highlighting the season's best offerings of share plates, bites, and entree's.

We are more committed than ever to our mission of celebrating what makes our city and region special, and contributing to it by making seasonal, farm-to-table food in Sacramento.

We are walking distance from California's state capitol building and convention center on the corner of 16th and P Streets overlooking the beautiful tree filled Fremont Park. The lively restaurant space features artwork and murals from local artists with bar, booth and table seating. The open patio has a variety of tall and low tables surrounded by live edge wooden benches and Magpie's iconic yellow umbrellas.

We came in for a friend's birthday. They have a DJ that was playing some of the best slow jams ever. While the ambience was a little loud and the lights were fairly bright for the experience, we overall enjoyed ourselves. Service was efficient and personalized. The arancini and tortellini were not as flavorful as we would have liked. Perfect space for dinner dates but maybe not larger parties of 4 or more. Would return and try again.

All in all, our party agreed that the dinner was good rather than great. Nothing wrong at all. Nothing stood out as exceptional either. All in all a good meal.

Excellent food! Chicken for sharing was extremely yummy….Crispy and tender and juicy. The Burger wasn’t overcooked as often happens in the US. Steelhead was perfectly cooked!

As always, great service and food. Four of us always order a variety of treats and we were not disappointed. Delicious season food, fresh and well seasoned and a an order of the comfort type food-arancini, mushrooms on toast, fresh seasonal salad. The expresso martinis were lovely-smooth and fun. Such a treat to share with good friends.

We had an amazing meal at Magpie. The anchovy toast and the hummus appetizers were outstanding; each entrée was excellent. Probably the pork chop was the hit of the evening, but the trout was super as well. Shared desserts - ice cream sandwich and also the carrot cake cookie. You can't go wrong dining at Magpie. Always something exceptional and locally sourced. Ed and Janel know what they are doing!!
