   First experience at Lussmann’s . I am sure I will return. Chose mackerel with Asian slaw starter and halibut with brown shrimp mains. Now the latter was not cheap but there was plenty of it. Ate the lot. Coffee was good quality I thought. My companion had a delicious mushroom soup followed by a large shepherds pie. The roasted vegetables were a bit disappointing as it was just a few carrot and parsnip sticks. Overall though very good lunch.

   As per other times we have visited, the food and service was amazing. I started with the mutton bombas and then the halibut which was cooked beautifully. Both were very tasty. Thank you!

   Fantastic service, cool environment and well thought through menu. I had a fish cake which came in an ocean of a béarnaise-like sauce. A little overpowering so I had to “abandon ship” halfway through. Less would have been more in this dish.

   As always, food cooked to perfection, friendly service and good ambience. Surprisingly few diners for a Thursday evening. Everyone should dine at Lussmans or else we’ll lose it!

   We ate early from The Locals Set Menu - the food was exceptional and outstanding value. What made the whole experience so enjoyable was the service - the waiter was amazing from the attention to detail to his advice. Delicious food complemented by exceptional service.

   We were so disappointed with our meal at Lussmans Hitchin. The starters were dull and tasteless (the Asian slaw had no Asian flavours, croquettes were soggy and bland). The mains : fish stew was the size of a small starter & didn’t taste authentic; shepherds pie was average, no flavor or interest; the onglet steak was good - I recommend you go for that. We had one glass of wine each and decided to avoid dessert in case if further disappointment. The service was great.

   I eat at Lussmanns (various branches) at least monthly. The attention to the menu, cooking and quality ingredients are always good - interesting, dishes are cooked well and the sourcing of the ingredients taken into account. My visit to Hitchin last Friday evening was lovely - really great, personable service from the all female team, great starters and a delicious fish stew. If only the staff at all branches were this good!

    We were somewhat underwhelmed by the quality of food served yesterday evening . The fishcake was too mushy and not hot and spinach overcooked and under seasoned, the portion of fish stew was somewhat meagre ,and the fish and chips tasted frozen. It was hardly surprising there were few other diners. We didn't complain to the server because of time constraints . However,the service was excellent ,
