Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: More than two decades into its run, Lotus of Siam is still a must-book restaurant, thanks to James Beard Award-winning chef Saipin Chutima’s exciting Northern Thai cuisine. Venture off the Strip to feast on dishes like roasted duck curry and drunken noodles in a lively dining room dressed with vibrant murals. Add in exceptional pairings from the award-winning 300-bottle wine list, and it’s easy to see why this Vegas institution is beloved by locals and industry insiders alike.

Excellent and quick service. And the food was delicious. Whenever we travel to Las Vegas we always make reservations to have dinner here.

An off night at Lotus. Been coming for years, but this visit was not impressive. Food appeared one appetizer and one entree at a time which made dining awkward, particularly when bringing first-time diners. Not a rememberable experience.

Dinner was at best average last night. I have been a customer since 2000 when the restaurant was at the Commercial Center. I would say over the past two years the quality of food and service has suffered. Last night was an example of this. Slow to be seated after having a resercation for 7:30pm and being seated at 7:45pm. Drink service slow to arrive at the table. Food order for entrees delivered at different times. Chicken drunken noodle was very soupy and the noodles overcooked and broken into one inch pieces of noodle. Garlic prawns seemed smaller and not presented as artfully on the plate as in prior. Prik Thai came out before chicken fried rice and we had to wait for rice to the point where we sent it back to get warmed up. As we did that the fries rice showed up. I have been to the newer restaurant at Red Rock as it is closer to my house. We find the service their to be more consistent and timely. The Red Rock staff and food more closely represent what the original Commercial Center restaurant used to be. Any future meals we will go to Red Rock Lotus.

The food was great! I don’t typically like duck because of the gamey taste, but it was cooked perfectly. Ordered Garlic Prawns and Crispy Duck with the Red Curry. Can’t go wrong and both were delicious!

Absolutely outstanding. Not your normal Thai food but real northern Thai food that far exceeded our expectations. The prices were great and the portions were plentiful. Highlight of a great trip to Vegas.

Billed as the best Thai food in America I came with too high expectations. Is it very good, yes. I feel it’s a bit Americanized and less authentic. It does have a more extensive menu than most Thai restaurants with Northern Thai varieties. If you haven’t had good Thai before, you’ll probably love it. If you have good Thai routinely it seems good not great. Nice location and ambiance.
