Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: More than two decades into its run, Lotus of Siam is still a must-book restaurant, thanks to James Beard Award-winning chef Saipin Chutima’s exciting Northern Thai cuisine. Venture off the Strip to feast on dishes like roasted duck curry and drunken noodles in a lively dining room dressed with vibrant murals. Add in exceptional pairings from the award-winning 300-bottle wine list, and it’s easy to see why this Vegas institution is beloved by locals and industry insiders alike.

The food is excellent. Best Thai food in Las Vegas. It is however a bit on the right side taste level wise. Not vegan friendly.

The food here was amazing as always. For some reason it is much better prepared than the food at Lotus of Siam Red Rock.

We were very excited to secure a reservation (3+ weeks in advance) and finally try this establishment, which has been widely hailed as one of Vegas' "must-go-to" restaurants. We arrived on time, and after a short wait, we were led through the long, hall-type dining room to a patio extension at the very end. It lacked the ambiance and energy of the main dining room, and it was cold, so we opted to wait for a better table. The better table was no better. We sat in the bar area, adjacent to the busboy station, where we listened to the clanging of dishes the entire time. It was also next to the restrooms, so there was that traffic as well. That said, we stayed positive and were excited to be dining here. Our waitress was pleasant enough but did not have much enthusiasm regarding recommendations or house specialties. The soup was good - nothing special though. Then we waited for the seabass...and waited....and waited. It finally came out, and was cold. We waited for the waitress to return to check on us, and instead of taking away the cold dish she had her manager come over. He apologized and offered to make a new one, but we lost patience. We waited for the pad Thai, which did come out hot. It was fine - but far from the best I've had. At that point, we were ready to wrap up our disappointing experience and call it a night. The bill came - they "graciously" took off the cold sea bass and offered dessert we didn't want. We again spoke with the manager, Mark, who eventually took 20% off our bill - that was not the point. He passed the buck and said it was the kithcen's fault. At the end of the day it doesn't matter. It wasn't about the money - more so a frustrating and disappointing experience. We will not return, which is a shame because we are part-time LV residents. I do not recommend. Too many other great options in this town.

Great food and very attentive staff - particularly when one of our party had a soy allergy! My favorites - the garlic fried prawns and the crispy rice appetizer "medium-high" spice!

The food is overrated and came out lukewarm. There are many more incredible options in LA and otherwise but it is decent for Las Vegas
