Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Joel Stocks

From the OpenTable editors: One of the New York Times's 50 favorite restaurants of 2024, L'Orange charms with its refined, Pacific Northwest-influenced Mediterranean small plates and superbly curated wine in a homey, cozy atmosphere. The combo quickly captivated local critics and diners, who show up in droves for dishes like roasted garlic soup with grapes or poached and grilled cauliflower with curried granola. It all obviously pairs beautifully with owner Jeff Vejr's large, varied selection.

Philosophy

At L'Orange we hope to transport you back to a time when full service dining was the norm. We hope that you feel the warmth of our space, the ease of our hospitality, and the delicious layers of flavors that our food and wine provide.

Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. Every dish we had last night was amazing, and we loved the paired wine, which featured a grape variety we hadn't tried before. This was my fifth time enjoying Chef Joel's food over the past 10 years (from different projects), but my first visit to the L'Orange location. I'm glad he finally opened this cozy restaurant. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back. However, the duck dish did not meet our expectations; it was a bit dry/burnt and overly salty. Without any other carbs in the dish, the saltiness was overwhelming. I hope this was just a one-off occurrence.

Exceeded our expectations. Service ("Jeff") was spot-on, atmosphere cute and cozy. food perfectly prepared. Wine selection was solid, and featured some options from the owner's vineyard. Reservations required, well in advance. We'll certainly return. My only question -- there is a sign in the restroom that notes "...our house elf has been freed" (picture of Dobby). Does this mean that the restaurant is owned by Lucius Malfoy? Please elaborate.

L'Orange definitely deserves to be one of the 50 Best Restaurants in America according to NY Times accolade. Each course was well thought out with interesting and well-balanced flavors from France and the Mediterranean. The must-try dishes are the Chicken Liver Mousse Tartlet, The Lamb Crepe, and the L'Orange Cake (and pair it with the Italian aperitif Cardamaro). The restaurant itself is in a historical building built in 1905, and you literally feel you’re transported back to the olden days when you walk upstairs to the bar and various dining rooms. We didn’t take a picture of the wine list but there were lots of choices with fascinating grape varietals. The menu changes seasonally so we're looking forward to going back in the future.
