Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

The restaurant from the outside appears unobtrusive and understated but once you enter the glass doors, you enter a charming space. Lots of character and charm, elegant French country. We were immediately welcomed by a friendly host and because one had the sense of being in France I was taken aback when he spoke with a southern accent! Too funny. Our table was on a room with a large fireplace and the seats were cushioned and extremely comfortable. Noise level low to moderate. Our server Breanna was upbeat, had a great sense of humor and checked on our table frequently. The service was professional, our food came out in a timely manner and we never felt rushed. The menu was exceptional and for the quality, very reasonably priced. Appetizers averaged $10-15, entree $35-50 and dessert $10-15. A couple of outliers on the higher end such as the $30 foie gras starter and the $65 beef tenderloin seared with foie gras in a truffle port wine reduction. The entrees included a soup or salad and our portions were decent. The manager came over to our table and spoke with us. She was charming. The chef.she told us is from Normandy which comes as no surprise as the meal was superbe. We were a party of six and every plate I noticed was completely clean at the end— not a drop leftover. I highly recommend this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, or just to have excellent French food in a comfortable warm and inviting setting.

Another lovely meal at Le Yaca! Love that the tables aren’t on top of each other and the atmosphere is pretty but not stuffy. I think the 3-course meal is quite reasonable. Nice wine selection, including by the glass. Salmon was perfectly cooked and the tarte tatin was wonderful.

We both ordered the filet with Roquefort sauce. It was cooked to perfection, and delightful. My wife also ordered the tuna sashimi appetizer, which was delicious and plentiful. Her only complaint was that it was not served with with crackers, traditionally the way we have seen it served. All in all a delightful dinner in a lovely setting.

It appeared that tables may of been added to the room, and this created a noise level to such a point that it was difficult for the two of us to have a conversation. The distance between tables was just wide enough to let guests and wait staff pass. The main course came to us at room temperature. Most disappointing part of our visit was it was my dates birthday, which I made note to the restaurant when making my reservation. When we arrive the hostess asked, “who’s birthday is it.” I acknowledge her. My expectation was that a special dessert with a candle would be presents. As I dined, I saw that at another table received one dessert with a candle. My table and my birthday guest did not receive the same courtesy.

Excellent food, excellent service. Attentive to dietary sensitivities. Tables placed apart from each other to keep overall volume low.

I had wait for my entree for half an hour as a larger table "needed" to be served first! When it finally arrived it was cold. Disappointed.

Another great visit. Birthday deal for wife. We were worried since they only offered a brunch menu on Sunday ( in December ). Turns out it was a 3 course fixe price menu with many great selections. Food was excellent. Price was reasonable. Service, as always, perfect. Staff very courteous. Happy (Birthday) wife, happy life. Never have had a less than great experience at Le Yaca.

If you want to eat at Le Yaca on Dec 14 in the future, you will have to make the reservation 1 year in advance. But don't bother, the noise level and type of noise was similar to that of a sports bar; this noise came from a business holiday party and this "party" has been occurring there for the past 3 years on Dec 14th. The noise was so loud that we had a hard time hearing our waiter and each other. This is so very disappointing and way out of character for the Le Yaca we have known for the past 30 years. Madame Daniele Bourderau would never have allowed such a cavalier event or the casual attire of its patrons.
