Ordered the chicken with roast potatoes and buttered greens. The chicken is served up in quarters on a large plate along with a sharp knife to carve it up to your requirements. Beautifully crisped skin and succulent meat. So tasty that the sauces we ordered to accompany it were surplus to requirements really. The roast potatoes were the best I’ve ever eaten. Evidently par boiled, cooked again under the chicken which is on the rotisserie then finished off in the oven. Perfection. Glassy outside and fluffy middle and tasty from the chicken fat and seasoning. A Bloody Maria ( tequila not vodka) to start made for a perfect lunch. Service excellent. Will definitely come again. Often. Like its sister restaurant Amelia , just yards up the road, the food offering is unusual and cooked so well. Although we ate simply roasted chicken this time the menu has much more to offer.

We had a fantastic meal for my partners birthday. Service was superb, rotisserie chicken sublime washed down with wonderful cocktails and wine. Thank you so much for a marvellous evening. We hope to visit again soon. Booked under the name of Symes, for reference.

Limited menu and wine by the glass choices. Vegetable side dish challenging. Overall food was flaversome.

We thought that the cooking was very good, the service was friendly, helpful but unobtrusive. However, given the high prices, the ambience/decor were somewhat basic and the chairs uncomfortable. the star of the performance is undoubtedly the food, with interesting combinations of flavours, very fresh and using local produce.

We enjoyed a sumptuous Sunday lunch at Le Vin Perdu - everything we ordered was a gustatory delight, from the duck egg mayonnaise, and snails with tender chickpeas, to the whole chicken slathered in tarragon sauce accompanied by perfectly crispy potatoes (cooked the way only the French know how to do) and delicious Hispi cabbage. The bottle of Picpoul de Pinet was one of the best picpouls we’ve tasted, and reasonably priced. Somehow we managed to find room for dessert - and I’m very glad we did as the delicately poached rhubarb with creamy bavarois was sublime. I should also mention the exemplary service we received, which was friendly, professional, efficient and very accommodating to our party being a little late for our booking. All in all a very memorable meal, and one we shall definitely repeat when we’re next in Ashburton.
