   After researching many restaurants for the very perfect spot to celebrate my 50th birthday, I chose Le Central because they also celebrated their 50th year of business. Both 1974 babies! We notified the restaurant of our special occasion upon booking our reservation. They immediately sat us down without words in the corner next to the kitchen. We waited 20 minutes for acknowledgment after being seated. There was one server for our entire side of restaurant, which I immediately would have given him grace and mad props, however, he never even came to a full stop while speaking to our table. While ordering he told me several items were bad and not to order them. The tables next to us were equally disappointed. My extremely cold mussels arrived with frozen frites. The appetizer bread was no better than a frozen loaf. My daughter’s salad was a $20 bed of lettuce. We had two drinks removed before they were empty and the manager just watched us to see if we were finished because they moved tables around and couldn’t comfortably create another 4 top for a reservation. We waited 25 minutes without being asked for another drink or dessert or mention of our special celebration, the reason for our trip to San Francisco. HERE IS THE MOST DISTURBING THING I HAVE SEEN AT A RESTAURANT. THE DRINKING PITCHERS FOR THE TABLES ARE FILLED STRAIGHT FROM THE SAME TAP WHERE EMPLOYEES WERE WASHING THEIR HANDS. Do not choose this place for a memorable evening!

   This is the first time my wife and I visited Le Cantral. I found out about this place from an article in the SF Chronicle a few weeks ago, it sounded like just the place we like for French cuisine. Overall the restaurant had a wonderful ambience. The manu perhaps could be a little more extensive but perhaps they change the menu every so often. My wife had the escargot and their signature cassoulet."Most excellent" I had the onion soup which was outstanding and the bouef bourguignon which is my favourite french dish so I have high stanbndards where this is concerned. The beef was very tender and lean which is what I wanted but there wasn't enough sauce so it was a bit dry. Nevertheless overall we had a fantastic experience celebrating my wife's birthday, we would definitely go back.

   David, Thank you for the kind review, we are so glad you enjoyed everything. The menu doesn't change that frequently, but with the cost of goods the way they are right now, having a big menu is terribly hard, with a big menu comes waste, and with waste comes higher prices to offset the cost, we prefer to stay reasonably priced and waste less. As for the sauce in the Bourguignon, I have addressed this issue with the kitchen, and they are adding more sauce. thank you for the feed back, it is important in correcting any issues.    The beef Bourgueneon could’ve use more sauce or gravy. Next time I order the same dish, I’ll ask for Additional sauce.

I have addressed with the kitchen the issue of more sauce with the Bourguignon, so next time it should be fine, but you are always welcome to ask for more sauce, we certainly will accommodate.    This was my first visit to Le Central and I'm now a big fan! The food was delicious, the wait staff and others were friendly and helpful, and it wasn't annoyingly loud. This is what fine dining was meant to be, at least in my opinion. I look forward to going back so I can try their other options!

   Le Central is a neighborhood gem with an authentic French vibe and well executed basic French dishes. Reasonable wine list with reasonable prices. A great lunch spot and we're going to visit it for dinner.

   Le Central is an institution and is consistently very good. I had the onion soup and the Salade Lyonaise, both delicious. The waiter was professional and did an excellent job. I've been eating at Le Central for years and look forward to many more meals there in the future.

   Delicious food prepared in the standard/classic French style. Wines by the glass are very expensive given the size of the pour. Overall, highly recommend for a classic dining experience which is getting harder and harder to find.

Our wines are not your "average" glass of wine! ...Sure we could have more affordable glasses of wine, but they would not be of the same quality. We try to have a few affordable glasses at around $12 - $14, then our average glass ranges from $16 - $21, then we have some premium Coravin pours from $25 - $45

    Great food and service. Reminded us of being in Paris. It was loud because there was a table of 14 guests celebrating the Holidays
