From the moment I walked in the experience was welcoming, efficient and thoroughly enjoyable. A bartender greeted me warmly as I walked past the bar to my table. The staff were uniformly cheerful and helpful. A bottle of water was delivered to my table immediately together with drink menu. My server, Daniela, was solicitas and took great care of me. Care was taken to explain items place in Peruvian culture. My choice of classic Peruvian Sour cocktail was delicious and I was told is traditionally delivered for its sour taste before moving to wine, which I did with a selection from the very good wine list. I ordered the cebiche sampler of 3 cebiches and all were fresh and delicious. It was my introduction to the explosion of flavors on my palate, which was consistent the entire evening. I had the Criollo, a stunning small plate (the servings are all ample), of sushi grade hamachi in a amarillo (yellow) sauce served with plantain chips. Absolutely excellent. On another recommendation I tried the beef empanadas and found them lovely, also incredibly flavorful. The pastry was perfect. My main dish was Arroz con Pato (Rice with Duck) that was prepared to perfection as well. The duck was crispy on the outside skin and fall off the bone tender inside. The rice was risotto-like, and a joy to eat. As Daniela explained their Tres Leches i’d not like others, to which i thought “yeah, yeah”, but as was the case all evening she was correct in hr description and recommendation. The cake is processed into corn kernel sized bits and made into a little mountain topped with a meringue and accompanied by fruit sauces. The process ensures the cake is saturated by the milks. Different and fabulous as was my coffee with milk. A great dinner and experience—Genial! We’ll return.

Very clean, stylish restaurant, but the music from the lounge area was way too loud and blared into the dining area. Ceviche tasting was good, esp the limenos and clasico. The anticucho criollos was so-so. On the other hand, the mains were not up to snuff. The pescado a lo macho was very overcooked; the fish had the feel of a dense brick of cotton. The lomo saltado had too much soy sauce; the meat was nicely cooked, but it tasted like amateur Chinese food. Picarones and lumia were ok for dessert. Bottom line: go for the ceviche but consider skipping the rest.

Enjoyed our first time at La Mar Cocina--impressive that after only a few weeks open they're getting so much right! Great highs mixed with siome mehs. Excellent venison heart skewer and scallop, but crab causa with purple potato, which looked stunning, was surprisingly flavorless. Pisco drinks were excellent, and ceviche good--but again, wanted more flavor. Ambiance, decor, layout were all great. Waitress was nice but needed stronger grasp of the menu, especially since so many ingredients were unfamiliar. The bussing staff who managed the table were incredibly prompt, friendly, lovely. Bottom line, we'll go again, repeat a couple of dishes, and try more!

Eating a La Mar is an entertaining and delicious dining experience. If you have never had Peruvian food, just looking at the menu is intimidating. Our server made this experience wonderful and memorable. She broke down the menu making it simple to understand and recommended the options and progression of food. The dishes are served beautifully plated and are delicious. Best seafood I have had in Bellevue - move over sushi restaurants , new game in town!

So glad to see such a fine Peruvian restaurant in the Seattle area! The food was amazing! Service was excellent, but our waiter kept explaining the food, what she would recommend, etc. It felt a bit rushed. We found they had only been open a couple of days! The restaurant was mostly filled at 5:20.
