Experience modern, coastal Italian cuisine at Fort Lauderdale's newest hot spot, La Fuga. Chef Michael Mayer infuses local South Florida flavors with classic Italian staples to create a fusion of crave-worthy, contemporary dishes.

La Fuga, (Italian for "the escape,") is nestled in the heart of the Kimpton Shorebreak, named in homage to the location’s historic beginnings. The newly renovated Kimpton Shorebreak occupies a unique space in Fort Lauderdale, originally opened as The Escape Hotel in 1949.

La Fuga pays tribute to it's origin story in name and also in atmosphere. Featuring midcentury design, and a laid-back vibe, the indoor-outdoor dining room includes views of the hotel's scenic courtyard and provides access to a rooftop pool overlooking Fort Lauderdale’s intercoastal.

Two of us went on a Sunday at 5 so the restaurant had just opened and was not very busy. Our waitress was very good and offered suggestions on the menu that we ordered and were very good. We had the bread with the olive oil, mussels and calamari appetizer, veal and bolognese.

Service and food were very good. The inside ambiance is lacking but outside by the pool is very nice. Like most better restaurants nowadays, it’s a little pricey but no more expensive than its competitors. Unfortunately, the pianist can only be heard seated inside.

Loved everything but the food. Had the slider off the Happy Hour menu…was very tasty. But Veal Milanese for dinner was disappointing all around…veal was small and tough, improperly breaded, mushrooms were cut too small and evaporated, and whole dish needed salt. Not good.

We loved this hidden gem. We always stay at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort and just found this authentic Italian restaurant. We felt like we were in Italy. The lasagna was the best ever!

The food was delicious. It was disappointing to book the reservation two weeks early and the hostess only had a table by the restroom or kitchen.
