Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.

As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.

The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

A new gem in Sewanee! We love Henrietta Red in Nashville and Julia Sullivan does not disappoint in Sewanee. One of the best restaurants on the mountain!

Our family had an outstanding dinner. We had cocktails and wine as well as multiple appetizers, a salad and two entrees and dessert. The oysters and tartare were the standout starters and the trout entree was the best I’ve ever had. The pappardelle was so delicious that I wish I could go back tonight. The bar service was a slow on the front end but that’s expected of a new restaurant. Our server was good and the restaurant has a fun vibe. This area is desperate for more quality food options and I’m so glad Judith is here.

What fun! And a wonderful addition to the Sewanee Village. I called one of my dishes a 'flavor explosion in my mouth'. Everything was delicious and really first-class. I felt like I was in a fancy big city! Don't miss the vanilla ice cream. The service was great and welcoming. Can't wait to go back!

I travelled to Judith from Nashville, getting a lovely dose of nature on the drive down. Judith offered a warm welcome and comfortable reward when we arrived. A varied dinner menu of all good options accompanied by an easy to navigate wine list kept it easy! We very much enjoyed the delicious sourdough, fresh tartare, and rich chicken liver pate, then the celery salad, pork steak and roasted chicken. It was a perfect evening and a nice little mini-trip out of town. Will certainly return!

The new restaurant developed by chef Julia Sullivan is up and running, with excellent food, cheerful service and good wine (liquor to follow). The venue is the former laundry at Sewanee near the intersection of University Avenue and hwy 41A. It has a high ceiling and many windows with a full length bar and spacious seating. The opening went without apparent hitch and the food continues the delicious high quality of Sullivan's highly regarded restaurant in Nashville, Henrietta Red. It is a wonderful addition to the dining scene on the Cumberland Plateau.
