Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.

As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.

The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Room was so loud that conversation was difficult without speaking louder than normal. Meal took over two hours to complete because food was very slow to arrive between courses. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Table for two was a round cafe size table.

another wonderful experience at Judith. Delicious oysters followed by chicken liver pate, buttermilk green salad, trout, schnitzel with a chocolate ice cream pie and a delightful red blend recommended by sommelier Patrick. Everything presented at a reasonable pace. Back soon

Delicious meal and cocktails. Our third visit. Still waiting to be surprised by a slab, or even a sliver, of moist, rich chocolate cake. Please. Just not a pie guy, although others enjoyed the offering.

Menu items are just what they say.. Caesar salad says it comes with bread crumbs, one would assume croutons as comes on a classic Caesar salad but it actually bread crumbs. Hands down the best no classic Caesar salad I've ever had. Another green salad comes with a buttermilk dressing. One would assume, buttermilk ranch, it was just buttermilk. Overall the food was good and the acidic play on the disses was very tasteful. Sourdough bread appetizer was a favorite at the table as was the Caesar salad.

Phenomenal in every way. Service was kind, attentive and impeccable. Every course was mouthwatering.,from the fantastic warm sourdough loaf with chili/garlic oil, to the trout rillette to the steak and the sublime fresh trout dish. Wines and cocktails were terrific too. Julia Sullivan is a master chef with a heart and Sewannee is lucky to have the restaurant Judith there. A culinary treasure.
