Contrary to popular belief, JJ's Restaurant is not named for popular owner Jimmy Frantzé. In 1985, Jimmy purchased JJ Malane's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. Malane's went away, but JJ's remained, and a West Plaza fine dining icon was born. Jimmy invested his enthusiasm and passion for exceptional contemporary American food, steaks and wine to build one of the finest restaurants in Kansas City just a block west of the Country Club Plaza. He helped create an environment that attracted and kept one of the most professional staffs in the region. He inspires so much loyalty that when the new JJ's reopened 18 months after a 2013 fateful fire, almost all of his staff re-joined him.

They are featuring the Montepulciano grape, which is the second most planted red varietal in Italy. Long considered an affordable but delicious everyday drinking varietal, Montepulciano is beginning to experience it's "day in the sun" as many discover the high end producers of the grape, such as Il Convento, featured at our dinner. Come discover your next favorite Italian wine! First Course Vermentino Shrimp Scampi Jumbo tiger shrimp atop house made linguine tossed in vermentino, butter, garlic and tomato. Paired with Badia di Morrona Felciaio Toscana Vermentino Second Course Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad Purple and green butterhead lettuce, sliced fresh strawberries, chevre goat cheese, and toasted pine nuts drizzled with a sweet balsamic vinaigrette. We had excellent service, the food was amazing, and cocktails were yummy! I would highly recommend! We were celebrating my husband's birthday and truly had a wonderful experience.

This is a favorite quiet spot for a job candidate interview. Today met all expectations. Andrew has been our server the last two times and does a wonderful job. He's there, pleasant and helpful when you need him and not in the way when you need space. Thank you for a wonderful experience as always!

We were pleasantly surprised that the noise level was low enough for us to carry on conversations during dinner. The food was wonderful, as usual. Our waiter was awesome. JJs is our favorite restaurant in KC, and where we take guests from out-of-town.

What a fantastic anniversary dinner we had this evening! Our server was so sweet and attentive, the glass of wine was wonderful and the calamari is our favorite in town. We had filet and lamb chops - those chops are absolutely to die for. Our cocktails were tasty and we had such a nice time. Thank you all!

Had a celebration with seven people. Christopher was our waiter. Everything was perfect and his service of our table made the night very special.

Steaks were perfect, service was top notch. Asparagus was a little woody. Sides and apps were also perfect.
