Jeffrey's Restaurant & Bar has been an Austin fine dining institution since 1975. In 2012 the restaurant closed for a major renovation and was reopened by McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality. The legendary restaurant, nestled in the Clarksville neighborhood just west of downtown, features a lively bar and three distinct dining rooms. The menus, from executive chef Mark McCain, features dry-aged prime steaks, updated classic fine dining, and locally sourced produce. The award-winning wine list, one of the largest and most diverse in Texas, features highly-sought after vintages from Old and New World producers. Private dining in the Napoleon Room and The Apartment is available for special events. Valet service is offered.

The charming neighborhood location, old world service & multiple private dining options make Jeffrey's a true Austin gem. Jeffrey's was named “Top 10 Best New Restaurants” in the country by Bon Appetit magazine in 2013.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Mark McCain

From the OpenTable editors: Woodfired steaks, caviar service, and martini carts set the stage at this legendary restaurant that’s been an Austin mainstay since 1975. A James Beard semifinalist nod and a spot on the coveted World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants list in 2024 has only reinforced how good this stunner remains decades on. Settle in for a memorable evening in one of the three different dining rooms, each with their own vibe from red leather booths to a taxidermied antelope head.

We had previously had an oustanding experience here and immediately booked our 1st wedding anniversary dinner here requesting the same table. I booked that 3 months ago. On arrival we were seated elsewhere, in a cramped, busy corner where it was so loud I couldn’t hear the server. The server barely tended to our table and the wait times for everything were at least 4 or 5 times worse than anything I’ve experienced. Our steak was ordered medium rare and came out rare, the sides were lacking compared to the last time we dined here. Truly disappointing and a miserable time on our first anniversary.

Great food & service as always. We tried several menu items - all were fantastic but the tortellini, venison, and short rib were particular standouts. The chocolate soufflé and baked Alaska were excellent as well. Would highly recommend!

Yay, trained and professional wait staff and servers! This makes a huge difference to a dining experience. The food was delicious and served in acceptable portions so that diners may partake of several courses without feeling too full, too empty, or wasteful. My standouts were the hamachi with a soy vinaigrette and duck poivrè. For my husband, it was the best lobster bisque that he can remember. It is a go-to for him. He’s partaken of it at many top notch restaurants around the country. He enjoyed the halibut and creamed spinach. I had intended to have steak but the steak portions were just too large for me. The smallest was a 6 or 8 oz filet. Maybe I could have handled one though because my duck breast must have been very close in size and I left none. Oh, my husband loved the popover at the start of the meal. I’ve had better but again, I left none. Maybe it was the delicious rosemary honey butter? Plan on $125 per person minimum for a complete dining experience, sans alcohol. Valet parking.

Excellent gin gimlet w/ fresh cucumber; the server Olivia went to Josephine House to fetch the cucumber for my cocktail! Delicious entrees of tortellini, short ribs, and fish paired with French wines. Outstanding service by Olivia. The only negative was the poor music choice played at an extremely lousy volume all evening in the main dining room. Conversation was nearly impossible. What happened to our elegant Jeffrey’s?

Incredible food, service, and atmosphere. Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Austin. Highly recommend the deviled eggs, steak, and desserts.

Colin was the most tremendous of servers. He was professional and poised, there when we needed him, and provided the most expert of recommendations. His wine picks were absolute perfection. No notes.

What a bummer! Jeffrey's is iconic in Austin, and we dine here regularly ...but what truly terrible service we received on Nov. 12! The food was timed so badly, resulting in a rush/stockpile of plates/courses thrown at us all at once (a HUGE pet peeve of mine... let me finish my damn popover before you are pummeling me with an app!) ...which then bled into huge 15+ minute lulls between things like dinner plates cleared and being offered dessert. Our server was non-existent/no where to be found, and small details (after dinner coffee being served with no cream... and then no server ANYWHERE... and then having to trouble a poor busser who *was* doing his job blah blah) made for a really disappointing and annoying experience overall. I absolutely understand that occasionally things happen in a kitchen, with staffing, etc... If such a thing was the issue, nothing was communicated. The food was excellent as usual, but for a $400+ tab for only two people (and NO alcohol), I expect a bit more. Super lame.
