Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.     We wanted to celebrate our new film with a little wine and dinner at the bar. Liam was the perfect host to make that happen. Service was top notch, the wine pairings with our meals were excellent and the atmosphere was local and friendly. Thanks for a great night, Liam...you have a great customer-centric attitude!

    Tasty food and great location. It was cold the night we went and we sat indoors, but the patio looked comfortable with heat lamps and I’m guessing it’s spectacular when it’s nice out

    We love Il Fornaio . Sam, our server was exceptional, food delicious & the heated patio with decor was lovely. Never disappointed when we go there. Thank you.

    We have been coming to Il Forniao for at least 15 years. The ambiance on the patio was non existent. It was very cold- only three heaters. The portions are very small and the prices have gone up to unacceptable levels. My food was cold and we were still Hungry when we left. The manager did take care of one of our entrees- which was nice. But it’s sad to see a San Diego long time establishment come to this level.

    Ambiance, service and food was excellent. We’ve always enjoyed Il Fornaio in Palo Alto and our experience in Del Mar was of the same. Although expensive the quality and experience make worthwhile. We will be going back.

    Our party of 5 had a very enjoyable afternoon Thanksgiving dinner. Everything worked well and our server Angela took very good care of us. We have had several Thanksgiving dinners here and every one has been excellent.

    The food was marginal at best. I gave it a 2 out 5. It is not what I would call authentic. I had lobster risotto from the “Specials” menu and I had to hunt through the risotto to find a few pieces of lobster. I could tell it was there though because the dish tasted fishy. Bread is not complimentary, definitely not an authentic touch. The house salad was ok, exactly as described—lettuce, croutons, and a bit of parmigiana cheese. This is chain food, I would not call it authentic Italian as they advertise.
