   Service is very very slow. A few tables around us couldn’t remember if they had ordered or not since the food took so long. It was very heavy on steak which was disappointing since the online menu when we made the reservation looked so diverse and interesting. The drink list and wines by the glass are minimal and not good. They bring bread, which was delicious, for the table but not enough for everyone dining. The steak was very bland for $82. No sauce and no seasoning. And the whole place was filled with smoke from them searing so many steaks. Our dessert was not good either. The rest of the food was pretty good but nothing I would go back for. I was really excited about the restaurant but pretty disappointed in the experience.

   A really magical Saturday afternoon brunch with my sister and daughter, on the front steps, in early spring. The hospitality was gentle, intentional, and consistent- they’re really lovely folks. And the food was magic. Merci.

   We love going to Holly Hill Inn. Last night was no exception. The food was wonderful. We each had a different style of steak. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection with fabulous sauces. I think I had the most beautiful and scrumptious salad I have ever enjoyed. The food is always good there, but what stands out even more is the delightful staff. They are always so welcoming, and they hit the perfect note of attentiveness. We had a perfect evening.

   My wife and I visited Holly Hill Inn after the first round of the NCAA tournament. The drive from Lexington took about 30 minutes from the Kenwick neighborhood of Lexington. We were able to enjoy seeing the beautiful horse farm countryside on our way to the restaurant. Holly Hill Inn resides in a beautiful Georgian style large house that was built in the early 1900's. I was a wonderful location for a dinner. There were only a dozen or so people there when we arrived so we did not have to wait to be seated even though we arrived 15 minutes before our reservation. Our waitress was very punctual and helpful with advising us on the menu. We both had Irish chowder for a starter which was delicious. We shared 24 oz cowgirl ribeye for our entree, which was a strategic mistake on my part because my wife likes her steaks to be cooked to medium. The steak was cooked between rare and medium rare. It was enough for both of us even though my wife only ate a couple of bites. There was a significant amount of fat on the steak so I would estimate that there was only around 12-14 oz of edible meat. Sides of Irish mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, along with bread was enouth to satisfy the both of us. I rated the food a 4 only because my wife did not eat the steak, which could have been corrected had we sent it back to the kitchen for further cooking. However, my wife was already happy with the aforementioned sides and chowder and chose not to do so. The price of the meal was on the high side but that is to be expected when you visit a restaurant owned and operated by a James Beard nominated chef. Overall our visit was very pleasant. I would recommend the Holly Hill Inn to anyone looking to enjoy a good meal near Lexington, Kentucky.

   We enjoyed a lovely dinner celebrating my 60th birthday. Everything was delicious from the fish chowder to the steak and bread.. and of course the desserts and coffee!! I have nothing negative to say!! We hope to return again soon when the weather is warmer and the garden is in bloom!!
