We went early, as it was Valentine's Day. We expected it to be packed. We arrived 5 mins to 5pm. Plenty of room. Wasn't thrilled that we were sat tucked away in the back (by a Mgr? doing paperwork) but we didn't complain. I thought perhaps when the live music started in two hours (IF) we were still there, it would be less noisy. Nope. VERY LOUD. Under a speaker is our guess. Made it difficult to have conversation without raising our voices.
We did enjoy the cocktails (Espresso Martinis) and beers. We purposely went for Happy Hour. But the drinks that were discounted were VERY limited and pre-printed on a list. None seemed appealing to our tastes. The prices were a little steep for regular drinks, but the atmosphere (Minus the way too loud music, even prior to the live band) was nice.
Food we didn't enjoy as much. Served quickly, but fries and burger were both cold. Didn't seem fresh at all. Side of Brussel sprouts in tiny cast iron pan was delicious, but for the 3-4 Brussels cut in half that we received, the price was pretty expensive in our book. Yet it WAS the best thing we ate.
May try HobNob again if we have a larger party to accommodate, as they seemed to have plenty of room. Various height tables, booths, and bar seating. Again, the Server was wonderful, and despite not enjoying either of our overpriced dinners, we tipped the max as she deserved it. Not her fault on taste, temperature, portion sizes, or prices. She lived up to her duties very nicely. Wish I could recall her name. But all the folks we interacted with were very polite and attentive.
Give it a shot. See if they were just having an off night in the kitchen. (Perhaps the Kitchen A-team had not arrived yet?) We too will check out the reviews again and give it another try if others report faring better than we did. Overall 5 star service, 4 star atmosphere (minus 1 for loud speakers which are very unnecessary), 3 star cocktails/food (minus 2 for price gouging & food issues.)
