Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Everything form service to food was excellent. My only complaint was the portion size of the side dishes seemed small for this level and price point of a steak house.

I visited this restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and it was a fantastic experience. The staff was exceptionally knowledgeable about the food and drinks and went out of their way to be kind and accommodating. The ambience was absolutely wonderful, creating the perfect setting for a special occasion. Overall, it was a great time, and I would highly recommend it!

Left me deeply underwhelmed and questioning its justification for premium pricing. While the ambiance and attentive service provided by our waiter were commendable, the operational and culinary shortcomings were glaring. The experience began with an overpriced glass of wine—hardly justified by the quality. When the steak finally arrived (after a stated 30-45 minute wait), it was served entirely alone on the plate—no garnish, sides, or any form of accompaniment. Bread or butter? Forget it—unless you specifically ask, and even then, it feels begrudgingly offered. For the price point, these basics should be a given, not an afterthought. Adding to the frustration was an unexpected and poorly communicated time limit: dinners are apparently only allotted 1.5 hours at their table. Given that the steak preparation alone consumes nearly half that time, this policy comes across as both unreasonable and poorly planned. Despite the solid effort from our waiter, who did their best to mitigate these issues, the overall experience was marred by operational inefficiencies and a lack of value for the premium pricing. For a restaurant positioning itself as upscale, it failed to deliver on the most basic expectations of hospitality and dining satisfaction. I won’t be returning.

Overpriced and not NYC steakhouse quality. $70 Ribeye was very thin and sides were mediocre. Waitstaff all sloppily dressed which was odd. I had high expectations but overall, very disappointing.

This was our third time visit and we were shocked by the experience. Prior visits were wonderful from beginning to end— not this time. The service was okay—we were the first table seated for the 5:30 Sunday opening and all we ordered were 3 oysters, 2 medium rare filets, one side of mashed potatoes, one side of mac and cheese, and a side caesar salad, along with 3 sodas. Once we placed our order, we did not see our server again once she switched out our utensils until after our food was brought by another young woman over 50 minutes later. Tables seated after us had already gotten their food and were almost done. When our food came, everything was cold and the salad was warm. The mac and cheese had clumps of cold cheese in it. We didn’t know what to do… When our server walked by, I asked her over and explained that everything was cold/not done. She asked if we wanted the steaks warmed and new sides. We just opted for the 2 hot sides, since the steaks were to be medium rare and besides being cold, they looked right. The new sides that were brought by another server were not much better, but at that point we were hungry and honestly, just wanted to leave. A manager did come over and ask how things were and we just politely said that the server tried to take care of things. When someone came to clear the dishes, we did ask them if we could have the check, and then our server came with it and said that the sides had been removed from our bill. We knew it was not her fault at all for the cook of the food, but there was very little attentiveness on her part to us as customers. Compared to past times at Hawksmoor, it was like we were at a completely different restaurant. Very disappointing.

Experience was wonderful from start to finish. We last dined at the Hawksmoor for Mother’s Day, and my husband received the wrong steak. I contacted the manager and they told us next time we came in, they would give him a steak on the house. Not only did they do as they said they would, but we were treated like VIPs throughout the evening. And our steaks were fantastic! Thank you for a lovely evening!
