So I waited a couple of days to write this review, thinking that a manager or someone from the "finest ski hotel" in the world would contact me to apologize for the Christmas fiasco. Unfortunately, no one reached out to apologize, so I will explain the situation. Two weeks before Christmas I made our lunch reservation for 12:45pm as we have celebrated Christmas for more than ten years by skiing in the morning and having lunch at GH. We arrived and checked in at 12:38pm and were told that it would be "5-10 minutes, probably closer to 10 minutes" before our table was ready. So we sat down and waited ... and waited. After 1pm, we approached the hostess and she apologized and said just a few more minutes, "would we like a glass of champagne?" So, then we went back at 1:15pm and she said, just a few more minutes - another glass of champagne? At 1:30pm, she said that our table was being set up. We sat down at 1:40pm only to be told that they were out of the entrees that we had intended to order: the trout, the salmon etc. but had plenty of cheese entrees. For the pescatarians in our group, this poses a problem, so we left. On our way out, I did tell the hostess/manager how disappointed we were that we were left waiting almost an hour after our reservation only to be told that much of the menu was sold out. We understand that Christmas can be hectic, but we saw several similar sized groups come in after us that were seated ahead of us, including overhearing one woman without reservations talk her way in with her group. It occurred to us that they must have prioritized guests of the hotel ahead of reservations by "locals" with OpenTable reservations such as us, despite the fact that we have supported them for many years. Needless to say, we have canceled our next three reservations at GH and will eat elsewhere.

We did the pre fixe menu for Christmas Eve and they let us change a couple things to fit our group which we appreciated. Cocktails were great. Filet and Elk chop were very tasty would not order the halibut again though barely seasoned and weird sides served with it. The other courses were very good as well especially the chocolate cake. Service was attentive and personable. The pre fixe menu was overpriced in my opinion but possibly inflated for holiday.

Great place, but was definitely a bit pricey for what we had. $74 overcooked steak, hmmnn. Overall was nice and service was great.

Fixed Christmas menu, only one course (Chestnut soup) was tasty, the rest very bland. Elk Chop was inconsistently prepared and my wife’s halibut was overcooked.

Attended the Christmas Eve dinner, four courses for $160. The decorations were beautiful, the service was mediocre, and the food was underwhelming. In particular, the halibut (main course) was so dry and hard I had to send it back. The manager suggested the elk chop instead and it was cooked ok but lacked flavor. Out of all for dishes served, the dessert was the best.

My husband and I agree, the service at Goldener Hirsch was out of this world. The servers were attentive and helpful with recommendations. They made conversation and called us by our names for the full duration of the meal. At the price point it is to be expected, but at the same time it’s where other similar places fall short. We’re so glad we were able to go to dinner here. The food was awesome, we had the roasted vegetables, French onion soup, and split the rack of lamb. While I didn’t love the soup, the lamb was out of this world fantastic. Also, while a little more expensive at $160 (if I recall correctly), the portion size was huge. My husband is a big eater, so while it was great for two of us I think it could probably feed three or four as long as they aren’t ravenously hungry. We will definitely be back!

Food was just meh, and service was seriously slow particularly for what was supposed to be a quick lunch.
