General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    We had a very good experience here on a Friday night. It’s busy & energetic, with a creative menu and cocktail list, and a comprehensive wine list. The service was welcoming and casual, and we felt overall pricing was reasonable. They will enforce table timing, but the allotted time is sufficient for a full meal.

    We'd been once before for lunch but dinner was a whole other experience. Lively ambiance, tasty food, and EXCEPTIONAL service. Michelle was a dream - offered suggestions, and affirmed those we'd already made (bluefin carpaccio for the win). Pork chop and creamed leeks were perfectly hearty for a cold winter's night. Appreciate being able to buy a half bottle of wine! We'll be back.

    Wonderful addition to the Toronto scene - thoughtful menu, food delicious and well executed, service excellent, solid wine list (love the 1/2 bottles!). I will go back soon and definitely will recommend.

    Delicious fish and chips! Chips are so yummy! The ice in the Non alcohol cocktail Young Buck weirdly made the drink Butterscotch pudding was incredible ! Our server was very nice too!

    Excellent sharing plates. The lamb tartare stood out as did the roast chicken main. Service by all of the staff was top notch! Such a beautifully decorated restaurant. Well done!

    Absolutely awesome. Food had a fun twist on some modern classics. Service was exceptional. If you’ve been disappointed with toronto expensive menus that underwhelm, try this place, as it will exceed your expectations.

    Great experience. We had multiple shareable appetizers- bluefin carpaccio was the stand-out for us, but we enjoyed them all. Service was 100%. Will definitely be back.
