Please note that Friedmans happily accepts walk in parties at all times everyday. We unfortunately do not take reservation for lunch or brunch hours, so please come in to get seated or be added to our wait list.

Friedmans is a family run business, which operates locations throughout New York City. Friedmans was named after the famous economist Milton Friedman who popularized the phrase, “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. To put it simply, “to get one thing we like, we usually have to give up another thing we like.”

Our mantra is simple, “Eat good food” and this is what we strive to deliver to our guests. For us, it has two meanings. Firstly, eat food that tastes good. Secondly, be proud of the food you serve. We know where our food comes from. We communicate regularly with our farmers and are proud to serve antibiotic free meats & local vegetables. Our mission is for you to love, respect, & enjoy, not only the food you serve, but also the team you work with.

The food here is fine. Definitely nothing special and the prices are inflated for what you get, but that's pretty typical for these middle-of-the-road restaurants. My main issues were 3 things: 1) we had a reservation through OpenTable and they removed our reservation and told OpenTable we weren't there (and then I got an angry email from OpenTable about skipping out on a reservation. When I called the restaurant to ask about this, they couldn't tell me why the reservation was removed, even though we wwere there for almost 3 hours and spent almost $100 (FOR TWO PEOPLE -- TWO DISHES EACH. RIDICULOUS). 2) We ordered banana bread and, though we had cloth napkins the whole evening, they brought a stack of paper napkins with the dessert. This is, by the way, while fires are destroying half of LA because of climate change. So we cut down trees to make napkins that we use fossil fuel to transport to a restaurant and then we...what...throw them away because we don't need them? So irresponsible. 3) Finally, the waiter kept referring to me and my guest (another woman) as guys...the whole time. Hey guys, do you need anything else guys? Guys, I'll be right back with your good. It was legitimately every time we spoke to him. I wouldn't address him and his brother as "hey ladies...what can I get you ladies?" Do I really need to be erased while I'm trying to enjoy a night out? I can't just be an adult woman and be addressed as an adult woman? I can't get a 3 hour break from the patriarchy? So disrespectful and honestly it just comes across as really unprofessional.

The best restaurant near Penn Station and MSG! Nearly everything in the menu already is or can be made gluten free!

The interior was very stylish and food was terrific. Coeliac paradise with so many options. Great for those that can eat gluten free and who want good fresh food. Also we are very late to our booking but they made it work. Thank you!

Friendly staff, good food (really liked the seared fish sandwich) and the noise level was low. The prices were also pretty good: a tiny bit high. My only complaint was about the dessert menu, which wasn't very inspired. And the brownie was dry. We felt a bit rushed with a 9:00 closing, which is especially early for a place serving dinner, in a tourist area near Macy's, and during the holidays.

Food and service was excellent. Took 2 grandchildren to Annie at MSG and ate at Friedman’s on 31st before show. We totally enjoyed it. Happy hour food was great for the kids.

Fabulous food. Great location. People in my party had fried chicken and grain bowls. All were very tasty (and we are from the south so our expectations for fried chicken are pretty high). Highly recommend.
