   Finnbar is a beautiful restaurant in a quaint little town. The service was very good. But... they change their entire menu daily. So, you don't know what you will have to choose from on any given night. Last night, given the choices, I struggled to find an appetizer and an entree that worked for me. Had I known I would be there on an "all Mediterranean" night, I would have passed and gone somewhere else. It would be better if they offered some standard staples to choose from on any given day. What I got was ok, but not at all what I had had in mind. I don't like to have to pay so much for a meal I didn't really want or enjoy. Also, they have no sodas (Coke/Diet Coke), and no sugar substitutes for adding to coffee or tea, also knocking this place down a peg for me.

   From the moment we walked in, we knew we had found a place the area had been missing for years. Cathy greeted us with a warm welcome, instantly making us feel at home in the vibrant and stylish atmosphere. Ethan and his team went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing experience. Cristina and Dustin impressed us with their incredible service and deep knowledge of the menu, while the chef crafted a unique selection of dishes you’d expect to find in one of the top five food cities in the U.S. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.    The new owners of the former historic Frenchtown Inn, now Finnbar, have done a wonderful job of retaining the old while refining it. There are several rooms to dine in and an active bar. Our reservation was at 6 PM so noise level was low. The four of us enjoyed the focaccia with whipped goat cheese as an appetizer, as well as the Rhode Island calamari. The portions were fine for four to share. The Old Fashion pours were a bit small, with no cherry or other muddled fruit at the bottom! Otherwise, they were good. Our server was attentive without hovering or rushing us, even when more customers began arriving. We enjoyed the wine selection. Two of our party enjoyed their pork meatballs and two of us the fried catfish. The latter was delicate and delicious, crispy but not oily. Portions were perfect. We loved our desserts: Chocolate Pot de Crème and Apple and Sour Cherry Crisp. The decaf coffee was also delicious. We were impressed that the prices, especially of the entrees, were reasonable, given the quality of the food. We will return and tell others about Finnbar.

   Great experience. Good food, reasonable prices, great ambience, wonderful staff. The bar area is loud so you may want to request another room to done if that’s a problem for you. Outdoor seating in warmer weather.

   Lovely people manage and work at this special restaurant, food is creative and delicious, (although a teensy bit rich). We had a great time and thank Jeff, Ethan and the rest of the staff for creating a casual, charming atmospheric restaurant in Frenchtown. Our out of town guests had a wonderful time!

    We have been to Finnbar a few times and have always had great food and service, but on Saturday we had our most stellar dinner yet! The "Very crunchy winter vegetable salad" sounds basic and good for you, but it is out of this world, very creative and incredibly tasty. We would go back for this dish alone! And the wines are always superb! We just returned from a few days in NYC where we ate well, but nothing compared to the ambience and food at Finnbar in little Frenchtown, New Jersey.
