Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients.
The carefully selected wines pay tribute to the well crafted wines of North America while offering many of the traditional Old World styles of Europe.
In October of 2023, The Dakota moved to its new location in Historic Downtown Covington...just a block from the iconic Southern Hotel.
The Dakota continues to set the mark for what people look for when they dine – well crafted food, detail-oriented service, plush surroundings, and genuine hospitality.

                                                                    Extraordinary long time between courses- about an hour. 2 of the 4 entrees were room temperature- didn’t order steak tar-tar - server assured me a new filet would be prepared instead manager arrives at the table with the same filet that was placed under a warmer and still room temperature. At this point the mood was subdued and I was very hungry so I just ate it. Golden Corral style. The Server apologized profusely (not taking it out on her tip at Christmas) They gave the table of 4 free dessert. Which was good but overall I think it’s over priced food and drinks for the experience- one and done for us too many other fine dining restaurants in the area to settle for substandard

                                                                    The ambiance is very good and so was the food. Variety on the menu was good and surprised there was only 1 soup and 1 seafood entre as specials. Service is impeccable and not only with the server at our table. If you passed any server or employee going to the restroom or when leaving they addressed you and thanked you for being there. A truly enjoyable evening.

Might be the only restaurant in Covington that even when crowded, does not seem so. You can actually care on a conversation at your table without raising your voice! Always a treat to be there!

                                                                    We celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary with an early 5pm dinner. The restaurant was relatively quiet when we arrived as there were several empty tables. Our meal was delicious and our cocktails were very good. We enjoyed the shrimp with polenta starter. The flavors were perfection. The grilled Caesar salad was yummy as well. For our entrees I got the scallops which I thoroughly enjoyed. My husband got the special which was a whole yellow snapper lightly crusted and fried with chimichurri and roasted potatoes. The presentation was impressive. We had a lady from a different table ask to take a picture of it. It was one of the best fish dishes we’ve had. For dessert they brought out a special chocolate surprise for our anniversary which was sweet and we also got the burnt goat cheesecake which I loved. It wasn’t super sweet. Overall had a great experience. Service and ambiance were top notch. Can’t wait to go back!

                                                                    What a beautiful restaurant with exceptional food and service! Jennifer is an outstanding waitress, and the drum was delicious. I finished the meal with my favorite dessert—Mrs. Judy's coconut cake. Look forward to returning.

                                                                    The Dakota is a fine dining experience extraordinaire - all the way around: ambience and service and our meals were sublime. The noise level, later in our dining time, interfered with our conversation but it was the holidays!

                                                                    We haven’t been here in several years, but the new location is splendid!! Quite for a romantic evening. The food was outstanding! I enjoyed the scallops while my husband partook in the veal. Both were very well prepared and seasoned to perfection.
