A lot of friends recommended Cork & Flame as a nice place to take your partner on a date. The pictures and reviews looked very promising, but the experience was only modestly good. We went for an anniversary dinner, just the two of us. I’ll talk the good, then the bad. 1) The restaurant has a very cool interior, stylistically. Unfortunately we were put in a hallway area next to the door to the private room, where there isn’t anything to look at except some walls, and it’s right between a wine cooler and the door to that private room, which meant that staff were regularly crouching down next to us to open the cooler and we had to watch some people struggle to get into the private room (the door seems to only open from the inside). We weren’t a last minute reservation, it’s just that the restaurant seems to favor larger group tables for the nice seating. 2) The cocktails were great. Not much to look at, visually, but delicious. I enjoyed my spicy tequila drink. 3) The stuffed prunes and pankora appetizers were absolutely awesome. My partner’s salmon was also cooked perfectly. The deconstructed apple pie was delicious. Not all of the food was good, however… the seasonal bread was cold, tough like it had been reheated, and the pimento cheese was the same you can get from any grocery store. I would think that good bread is a fundamental, basic experience of any restaurant… there’s really no excuse to start off with bad and cold bread. My bison entree was also very difficult to eat… each piece took a long time to chew. I understand that bison may be a tougher meat but if the cut is worse than any other steak then why bother serving it as a dish? The flavor was just okay, and the elote underneath was tasty, but a bit too rich to eat a lot of. 4) The service was kind of slow. We spent two amd a half hours there. You order everything up front so that the experience can be catered, but we spent a lot of time just waiting.

We have been to this local eatery several times in the past, and it never disappoints. This was our anniversary dinner. We arrived a few minutes early to peruse the adjacent wine shop and picked out a couple of bottles to take home at the end of our meal. The sommelier was very helpful as we browsed. We were seated at a private table toward the back of the restaurant, which was good and bad. The level of ambience noise in that section was a little distracting. There was a nice candle on the table, but there was really not enough light to be able to adequately read the menus or see the excellent food that followed! Will was our server and he was an attentive, personable, nice young man who took good care of us. The drinks were excellent, including the C&F Old Fashioned. We had a wedge salad, the hoppinjohn, boar and bison, followed by a shared deconstructed apple pie and wonderful French press coffee for dessert. If you are in the Evans, GA vicinity, this restaurant is well worth your while.

The food was good as always, but the service (which is the main reason we go) was sub-par, which really shocked us. The location of our table next to the kitchen was so loud we could hardly hear our server. We sat down at 6:45, and enjoyed bread service and appetizers until about 7:15pm. Past that, our table was not approached by our server again until 7:45pm to let us know our entrees were almost ready. By 8pm we finally had our meal, but were running late for an event by that point so felt like we had to rush and not enjoy the meal, and then did not order the desert like we had originally planned. Generally Cork and Flame had been our go to for date nights, but we will be re-thinking it in the future.

Second time visiting Cork and Flame. First time was a terrific experience all around. This time, the food was great but the service was terrible. After sitting at our table for over 30 minutes with no service whatsoever, we had to hail a nearby waiter just to get our water glasses filled. Everything was slow all night. It was bad enough and took so long that we asked for the check as soon as the food was delivered. Something that struck me as odd… the waiter insisted on taking my credit card before bringing me the check (maybe that’s now a thing? It was weird to me). He did bring me a copy after he ran the card, and I took a picture of the receipt because that seemed very strange. Anyway… The bison and the filet were both great, and we also loved the Brussels sprouts and lobster bisque. The food was good enough and I enjoyed my first experience so much that I’d go back. But Cork and Flame is too pricey a restaurant to have service as bad as we had tonight.

I have been coming to cork and flame for a few years since moving to Augusta. This has always been an excellent experience with wonderful food. However, this evening was awful, the service was disappointing and the food was terrible. We waited 40 minutes before we were provided beverages and my chicken dish was raw. All of our appetizers and main meal was served at once and our dessert was cold and seemed like it had been sitting for quite awhile. Our server stated from the beginning that she “was not a sever” and definitely demonstrated that for the rest of the evening. Cork and Flame prides itself on the experience, yet no one came to apologize except the Sommelier who did comp us a bottle of wine which was three years off from the bottle we originally ordered and was never brought.

The food was great - halibut for me and chiopino for my wife - both meals were excellent. The wine choices are out of this world and Hayden, our server, was absolutely wonderful. I will definitely go back.
