Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Copper Bar at Mauna Kea offers a stunning ocean view with live Hawaiian music and hula dancers. Guests praise its "beautiful setting" and commend the "excellent service and great food." The KFC cauliflower and flatbreads are popular. Some note the "pricey cocktails" and occasional service inconsistency, but overall, it's a favorite spot.

The service and the music was good, especially the music. It is unpretentious and casual and upscale all at the same time which is a good thing. The food was a B - the ribs were dry but just covered in sauce, the salad was DRENCHED in dressing, the seasoning on the octopus was so spicy it overshadowed its delicate taste. We did not appreciate ordering simple Manhattans and having them tun out to be $35 with no explanation why for the uncharge (the average cocktail on the menu was $20-23). At the front they asked if we were celebrating a birthday to which we said yes - it was a special occasion - but they did not acknowledge at the table. We enjoyed ourselves though and the view and ambience was relaxing.

My wife and I are full-time residents of the resort and dine at Copper Bar often. The location is ocean front. There is live Hawaiian music nightly, sometimes with a hula dancer. The food and service are always excellent. The restaurant is located under a roof, in case of inclement weather.

We always eat at the Copper Bar when we visit Hawaii. The westward facing views allow for a sunset experience. Our favorite local singer, Pomai Brown, entrances us with his beautiful voice and lovely Hawaiian musical arrangements. The limited menu offerings are varied enough for me to enjoy something different on each visit. The service staff are attentive and never pushy or rushing you out the door.

We called ahead to plan some birthday surprises for a person in our group and there was good planning, but poor execution. Every surprise was ruined and at one point the dessert was delivered while there was still dinner on the table and no silverware. But overall food was delicious and vibes were nice.

Great ambience and view. My husband's meal was perfect, my fish was overcooked. Our waiter had some challenges but all was good in the end. Sunset was the best part of the evening....all great!

We made reservations for an early dinner to catch the sunset. The restaurant was not busy and we got seated right away at a table with a wonderful view of the water and sunset. Our server came over fairly quickly and took our drink order and the drinks came out quickly. Our appetizers of thick cut bacon and caprese salad also came out quickly and were very good. Then things started to go badly. The restaurant got busier and our server picked up a table with a large party and that is pretty much the last we saw of her except when it was time for the check. Someone else brought out entrees and she never came by to ask if we wanted another drink or ask how the food was. Unfortunately, the main course was not nearly as good as the appetizers. The steak was average at best. Pretty low quality cut. The hamburger was ordered well done and it came very rare. Again, with no one coming back to check on us we waited until another server asked if he could take our plates. I am guessing he noticed that the food was hardly touched but didn't say a word. He did get our original server to bring the check and when she did bring the check she didn't ask how the food was. We had to ask another server to process payment as our original server never came back again. We have been to the Copper Bar before and it was fantastic. Not this time. I would rate it as not great with way below average service.

Staff and bartenders flexible in terms of seating and how to make a Mai Tai. Food adequate but not special. Pricing on par with hotels in area.
