Compère Lapin - noun - "kom-pare la-pan" - 1. anthropomorphic rabbit character who served as the mischievous protagonist in Creole and Caribbean folk tales; 2. Chef Nina Compton's restaurant at the Old No 77 Hotel & Chandlery in the Warehouse Arts District of New Orleans.

Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.

We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Nina Compton

From the OpenTable editors: At Compère Lapin, James Beard Award-winning chef Nina Compton dazzles with showstopping dishes that marry her Caribbean heritage and French fine dining pedigree. Dig into favorites like goat curry and broiled shrimp with Calabrian chili butter in a stylish space dressed with exposed brick and warm woods. Don’t miss award-winning cocktails like The Copper Hopper—a tropical, tequila-forward drink served in a copper bunny mug, a nod to the restaurant’s namesake folklore rabbit.

Food was outstanding. Papaya salad and jerk pork belly are a must order together. Also the curry goat is incredible. We ordered the biscuits with it to mop up the sauce (server recommended this) and was a great shout. The biscuit with honey butter could be a whole meal on its own. Best one I’ve ever had.

We had an amazing meal! The goat curry was delicious, as was the jerk chicken. Overall, one of the best meals we’ve had in New Orleans!

Excellent meal. Dishes were creatively presented and flavorful. Their Point of Sale system could not process an AMEX; had to pay with cash.

Absolutely fantastic. Our server recommended their “just feed me” tasting menu as chef Nina Compton was in the kitchen that night. Cannot recommended doing that enough. For $75 it’s incredible value for 10 different dishes. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Superb.

The food and service was amazing. The decor and ambiance the same. A bit pricier side but it was worth it. The ceviche is a must try. 🤌🏾 Only con was that I mentioned on the reservation that it was for a birthday and nothing special was done.

Fantastic experience and food! We tried a rum flight and had the chef tasting menu. Both were curated perfectly and phenomenal, with surprises that we likely would have missed ordering on our own (including the desserts, which we often skip when dining out). We left very full and satisfied!

Service was great, everyone was friendly. Server Mark was great at explaining dishes, answering questions. We went twice during our trip to NOLA. Biscuits are amazing, Crab fingers, Bass collars (so good!), goat, snapper, Bolognese, and fried chicken were all delicious. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed the cocktails, small plates — truly amazing biscuits wjth two kinds of butter— and the salads. The main courses were oddly not as appealing and delicious as the rest of the menu.
