COMMUNION is a place where you feel seen. A place that feels like comfort, rest, relief, and peace. Our mission is to provide the food, the familiarity, and the intimacy that make you feel at home.

Chef Kristi Brown has spooned her way through the culinary industry for the past 28 years. Starting at a small café in downtown Seattle, Kristi has done just about everything from dishwasher/prep cook to running her own catering business for nearly a decade. From the beginning, her vision was to focus on the art and experience of food through culinary activism. A purpose powered by her mantra, “Everybody’s Gotta Eat!” Chef Kristi desires to build community through the cultivation of fresh food and fine cooking.

From the OpenTable editors: Eater, The New York Times, Condé Nast Traveler, and the James Beard Awards have all sung the praises of chef Kristi Brown's Seattle soul cooking at Communion. The pork neck stew is non-negotiable, alongside creative dishes such as "hood sushi," or cornmeal-crusted catfish rolled with pickled veggies and remoulade. That plus the welcoming vibes in the industrial chic space set in the city's historic Black district have made Communion one of the country's best new restaurants in recent years.

The food? Outstanding. Service overall could be better. We had reservations but when we arrived had to wait in line with others on the wait list, even though our table was ready. That made absolutely no sense. The table was on the patio and I asked the host if there might be a table inside. I was told no- okay, I can accept that. Except that inside tables sat open for entirety of our visit. So we had to wait to sit on an open patio (while tables were available inside) even though we had reservations. Our server was awesome, except that one table on the patio was easy to forget which happened a few times. But, the food. Everything you might have read about and then some. Wonderful flavors and the quality was superb. None one dish was anything less than awesome. So we’ll definitely be back, but we’ll have to figure out the seating options better next time.

Great food (though a bit on the salty side). We had reservations but still took 25 minutes to be seated. Then we felt rushed during the meal. Inside was uncomfortably noisy.

Poor experience with reservation system. After being seated 30 minutes late, and only being seated for 55 minutes we were told hurry up since they are “backed up”

Absolutely loved every single dish we got. One of the best meals I’ve had in a while, and as a group of four, we got to try a lot of things. Great drinks, great atmosphere. I definitely plan on coming back!

A really very delicious taste adventure! Each dish is meticulously cooked and plated and the four of us liked everything we ordered. We’ll go back to try more menu items. Yum!!!
