Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Cognac is a delightful French addition to St. Pete's dining scene, praised for its "delicious" food and "superb" service. Diners enjoy a true Parisian bistro vibe with standout dishes like Steak Frites and escargots. The staff, including notable servers like Paul and host Ace, are highly "attentive" and welcoming. Although the noise level inside can be high, outdoor seating offers a quieter experience. Cognac promises a "memorable meal" with its authentic cuisine and cozy atmosphere, making it a "must try" for locals and visitors alike.

Great addition to downtown dinning. Attentive and accommodating waitstaff, manager greeted every table. Nice French inspired menu, food was tasty and fairly priced. Will be dinning at Cognac again!

Cognac is the French restaurant we needed in downtown St Pete, more than a Bistrot, not a fancy Brasserie, it fits right in between and nails what was needed in the neighborhood. The recipes have the authentic traditional French flavors, well selected classics. The service is beyond excellent (or Jordan is the star) and the bar is in good hands with Andrea. Prices are incredibly affordable and the ambiance is that of a busy night out in the Quartier Latin. Congratulations and much success to Christophe!

The food and service was fantastic, we had the escargot served traditionally in the shell, caviar for appetizers. This was nicely done and a very reasonable price. We had a bottle of wine, Austin Hope Cabernet and to our surprise, it was a one liter , not a 750 ML, so this was nice. All of our meals came out hot and delicious, the mains took a little long, but our server was in constant contact with us, keep our water glasses and wine full. We had the trout, the chicken and the fillet, as was fantastic. The only issue was it was very loud in the dining area, our server mentioned they are addressing this by installing sound baffles. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will be going back again very soon, a nice compliment to the offerings in downtown St Pete.

First time visit. Sat at a table for two outside; 5:30p reservation and it was already busy! Glad to get a table just outside the door and not sitting on top of others-the tables for two are placed kind of close to each other. I think they called them their Bistro tables; the closeness seemed to mimic European outdoor dining. We really enjoyed the Escargot-finally found a restaurant that isn't afraid of putting lots of garlic in their butter sauce! Also enjoyed the Salmon Tartare appetizer. Both were served with a healthy bowl of baguette slices. We ordered the Grouper entree (served with pureed parsnip) and the mussels (served with the best french fries ever!). Both entrees were fabulous! We were there in time to take advantage of Happy Hour (3-6p) and enjoyed their sparkling Rose and a chardonnay. At $6/glass, a great treat. After dinner we had their Espresso Martini and a glass of Chartreause Verte to accompany a shared Vanilla Creme Brulee. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at this new restaurant. Our server was lovely, though I think the fact that the place was quite busy and she may have had many tables caused her to forget an item we had ordered and we were served the sparkling rose vs the still that was ordered. No worries, we rolled with it and enjoyed everything as these weren't earth shattering glitches. Highly recommend and we will return!

Our first visit to this new establishment. We love their sister restaurant, Bacchus. We found the food, service and interior decor to be simply fabulous and one of the best new places to eat in all of St Pete/Tampa. The noise however was almost unbearable. There is limited to no insulation, porcelain floors which make a conversation nearly impossible and it was even difficult to hear our server. I hope they address this as it would be a shame not to frequent this place on a regular basis

Another great night here. Definitely has one of the best happy hours in town, with drinks & light bites. The steak frites, is also the best in St Pete!

Packed crowd, which was a nice vibe. BUT could not hear a word of conversation across our 4 seater table. Major turn off. Hope to return one day, but may not think of Cognac as. A place for a nice meal and visit with friends. So sorry.
