Dining together allows us to better understand who we are, regardless of our social status. The food does not have to be elegant, complicated, or fancy. We find that busy people like simple food—the busier they are, the simpler the food. Our menu is straightforward, down-home Southern food with a few more contemporary dishes.

Getting back to the table allows us to love and nurture each other and renew connections to our families—however they may be configured—in this diverse and ever-changing society. Such connections are crucial in a fast-paced world where we feel more disconnected every day. One of the best ways we know how to restore that daily balance is to sit down at our table.

We should all think about returning to the sanctity of the table, where we can rebuild our families whether they be given or chosen, and reconnect with those we love and choose to love. Our table is a familiar, uncomplicated, friendly place where we can celebrate.

This was first time at Chef Art’s. I invited 10 of our closest archery friends from around the Midwest that were in town at Navy Pier for a National Archery Tournament. We all had a great experience while dining in the private room and agreed that the food was very good. Being a local to the Chicagoland area, I look forward to returning to Chef Art’s the next time that I’m in the area. Especially late Spring/ early Summer.

First, we noticed the fresh and bright decor. Next, the live music. Beautiful young lady. Amazing voice. I didn’t catch her name, unfortunately. After looking at the menu (thank you for mocktails!) we settled on hushpuppies and fried green tomatoes for apps. Wow. The pimiento cheese and red pepper jelly went perfectly. We also ordered the fried chicken, strip steak, chicken sandwich, cucumber salad, greens, mac & cheese, and shrimp & grits (upgrade to cheddar, totally worth it). Everything was absolutely amazing. Portion sizes were big enough that we all shared bites and still each took to-go boxes home. Mel was outstanding. She had such a great personality and made sure we were well taken care of. The only thing we would change was to wait to place our entree orders until after we finished the appetizers. The food came out so fast that we weren’t finished with the apps. But it was all good. We will definitely be back!!

Such a letdown. It really felt like a tourist trap. The oil must have been too cold because the hush puppies and fried chicken were not crispy and left my lips and tongue oily. The hush puppies were also gummy or undercooked in the center. The deviled eggs had a good filling but the whites were rubbery. Fried green tomatoes gad a nice flavor, but again, oily. The greens were too sweet and very overcooked. The biscuits were heavy and salty. We wont be back and are very disappointed. Avoid this place especially for the price Looks like Mr Smith just lent his name for money.

The food was absolutely delicious! The fried chicken was so juicy and tender, and the salmon was out of this world. A must do in Chicago!

Mediocre experience, particularly for restaurant week. Was initially skeptical of making a reservation for a restaurant on Navy Pier, and this hesitation was warranted. Dined in right at opening and already food on the menu was unavailable, — dishes were decent at best and wrong at worst. Timid service and left dissatisfied.

Love this restaurant!! Food is outstanding, especially like the creamy grits and their biscuits!! True cornmeal crusted catfish and wonderful fried green tomatoes. Of course the chicken is to die for. Service is always warm and friendly and the drinks are creative and delicious.
