Not sure if the kitchen crashed but it took an hour and a half to get our meals, and even then they brought our dishes out piecemeal. 2 of the 4 meals weren’t up to expectations: an overdone steak and over-seasoned pasta dish. But after such a long wait, no one wanted to send food back. And during the wait, we barely saw our server for cocktail refreshments, which also took awhile when we were able to place them. I think they were overwhelmed with Christmas Eve bookings and this isn’t typical, but really left a bad impression with some 1st time Castaway goers.

Cons: 1) seated on time, then neglected by the server. 2) half the firepits were broken, heater was not warm. (we requested a good seat on the patio) 3) the manager left the natural gas on the fire pit on and choked us out ..never apologized 4) drink order came wrong 5) the butter fish was "fishy" not good 6)terrible key lime pie.. more of a sour cheesecake 7) this was the worst holiday meal experience ever and we still tipped 20% Pros: 1) the view was nice. (same as DeBell) 2) the salmon and potatoes were good . (better at Granville) 3) they tried to make it up to us with a free drink and terrible pie (pie's still in the fridge.. I can buy my own drink ) Takeaway .. this place has gone down hill, Especially since the renovation. ( we have been regulars since the 90's, and live in the area) It is managed poorly and is way overpriced for the quality of service and dining experience that they provide.

Food is very good, especially the unexpected great fresh oysters on the half shell. If you go during the busy season (Holidays, Graduations, Weddings), expect service a bit on the slow side. But the most important aspect is the food, and that is excellent.

It is not the same as it was a year ago, food wasn't that great, a long wait for a table, service was mediocre, starters came for two people and the others had to wait a very long time and remind waiter. You can't beat the view though and the ambiance is good. it's just when you spend a lot of money you feel entitled to a certain level of service and that the food should be better than what you could make at home. This wasnt the case.
