HYPE: This restaurant is overhyped and deeply disappointing. I was seated on the rooftop, which was so dark I needed my phone light to read the menu and couldn’t see my food. The meal started with a lackluster cocktail and pedestrian wine selections. My appetizer—squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta and wrapped in crispy sweet potato—was the only highlight. What followed was terrible. The aguachile stuffed with ceviche was tough and unbearably spicy, and the bean soup was bland. I returned both dishes and left disappointed. After two weeks of dining across Mexico, this was by far the worst meal. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant—it’s not a fluke but a reflection of their overall approach.

Memorable! This was easily the most impressive and creative restaurant we ate at in Oaxaca (based on 4 days and 8 meals — all in Michelin recommended restaurants). The creativity was truly remarkable — but was surpassed in each dish by the flavors. The presentation was also extraordinarily refined. The house specialty cocktails were outstanding as was the outdoor dining ambiance. The only aspect that was less than superlative was the service — it was perfunctory at best!

Great location. Beautiful restaurant. The staff are friendly but there is no lead waiter so you are often left hanging. The food was good but not to Oaxaca standards.

I was served bloody raw turkey. I ended up sick from it. The lighting is so low you can’t see what you are eating. I knew the texture was off. I used my iPhone to look at the turkey. Absolutely raw in the center.

We had a good experience at casa Oaxaca. Our group of 3 tried many items and our sense was overall most were overly complicated and therefore impacted the flavors. Our favorite was the roasted cauliflower in peanut mole. This was truly delicious. The risotto is a tiny portion and mostly mushroom. In contrast, the Squash blossoms filled with ricotta, crispy sweet potato, plantain puree was a Miss. the sweet potato wrapped around the squash blossom killed the delicate flower and overall little flavor. We liked the Chile de agua stuffed with ceviche but there was too much thick sweet and sour passion fruit sauce and it over powered the fish. We didn’t like the flan preparation with tapioca and ice cream. Too much going on and all soft textures. The service was just ok. Plus our server was visibly ill. We also were close the the busing station and they didn’t clear the dishes they just started stacking. This should be corrected asap for an elegant restaurant of high standard. Beautiful rooftop terrace setting and gorgeous designed restaurant. Also in winter, please have more blankets or ponchos available.

Increible todo; la tostada de insectos, el platano con mole, el pavo con mole y los drinks de mezcal.

Amazing food!!!! Outstanding service. I would always go for the octopus and the short rib. The soups are not their thing (at least that’s our opinion). A must in Oaxaca.
