About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Hot spot
  • Innovative
Callie represents Chef Travis Swikard's debut solo project after spending a decade working alongside the esteemed Chef Daniel Boulud in New York City. The restaurant’s name, "Callie," comes from the Greek word "kallos," meaning "the most beautiful," and embodies its blend of Mediterranean cuisine with local ingredients and terroir, from sea to land from San Diego, Swikard's hometown. In 2022, Callie was acclaimed as one of America's top new restaurants by Esquire and Robb Report, and received both a Bib Gourmand and a Plate from the Michelin Guide. Callie is a dedicated supporter of Feeding San Diego, having contributed over 1 million meals to those in need in San Diego since its launch. Swikard is set to open his second restaurant in La Jolla in 2025.

From the OpenTable editors: Chef and San Diego native Travis Swikard is an alum of iconic restaurants like DANIEL, and that pedigree shines at this sophisticated Mediterranean spot named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2022. Feast on plates like lemon saffron linguine or harissa-grilled lamb chops, or go all-in on a five-course family-style tasting menu. Either way, a meal in the inviting space decked with blue tiles and lush greenery feels like a lively dinner party on every visit.

    Jun 4, 2025 only
We're turning 4! What better way to celebrate than by doing what we love most - honoring the city we love, the people who have supported us, and the cross-border flavors that inspire us daily. To mark this milestone, Chef Travis Swikard is teaming up with good friend Chef Drew Deckman of Deckman's and ThirtyOne31. A culinary pioneer who shares his passion for sourcing local, cooking with intention, and letting ingredients shine. Together, they will craft a one night only menu that pays homage to the rich bounty of San Diego and Northern Baja - from our local farmers and fisherman to the bold, sun-drenched flavors that define our region. As a thank you for 4 unforgettable years, every guest will receive the Callie pantry - a curated collection of preserved lemons, housemade hot sauces, and signature spices to bring a taste of our kitchen into yours. Additionally, for every Flavors of the Sun dinner sold, Callie will donate $5 to Feeding San Diego - providing 10 meals for San Diegans in need. Please note that only the Flavors of the Sun menu will be offered on this day; a la carte dining will not be available. Modifications & substitutions cannot be made for this menu. No-shows or cancellations less than 1 day in advance may be subject to a charge of $10 per person. Tax, 20% service charge, and 4% surcharge will be added to all checks.

The food is Fantastic. Service is slow because they do the automatic 20% tip thing so the servers and stuff don't care about getting to you with any sort of speed. Nice place though, we will go back for sure. Again, the food was so good it over rules everthing else, it was that good.

Best food in SD. Worth the price. Unintoast and linguine were standouts. Duck breast and asparagus honorable mention. We ordered a riff of tiramisu which was great, but not tiramisu. More like a strawberry shortcake.

Dinner for a table of 4. Outstanding meal with one of a kind flavors and presentation. Shared 4 starters, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Portion sizes varied but were larger the expected given the food quality.

We had an amazing time with some wonderful food and great service! The chicken and duck entrées were excellent as well as our appetizers and mixed drinks. The only thing we did not like is how loud the restaurant was during the our meal. By 10 PM the noise level finally calm down since people started to leave.

Came here for a birthday + anniversary celebration with my partner. Staff was courteous and service overall was mediocre. We were seated soon after arrival per our reservation. There was a lot of time in between each meal of our course leaving for a dinner; pacing can be improved. Our server was kind, but throughout the dinner, they very briefly checked in on our table as-if to merely check off a task. He would walk by and inquire about how everything was and as we were answering he would already be turning around and or walking away. This wasn’t an isolated instance it was repeated throughout the dinner. In my reservation, I filled out the special requests section with a request for a unique memorabilia as a keepsake. We got a generic letter set at our table upon arrival and that was all. Overall meal was quite expensive. On top of that they charged a mandatory 20% service charge and there was also an additional 4% service charge on top of the mandatory service charge which was supposedly for a cost-of-living adjustment to help pay staff. It is quite absurd that a restaurant who already charges +$50 for a medium-sized plate of pasta with a mandatory 20% service charge needs to slap on an additional 4% charge to afford to pay their staff. Overall experience was honestly quite disappointing for the status and reputation of this restaurant, especially considering how there is essentially a 25% mandatory service charge on top of the entire meal.

Every last detail was perfect! The food was exceptional and the service was impeccable. Medhi and Priscilla were the best and made us feel very welcome! We will be back--definitely. My negroni was delicious as well! Cheers!

We had the tasting menu, which was phenomenal. A fantastic sampling of the menu, all at full portion size. Everything was delicious, with everything well thought out, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. Was our first time but we will be back for certain.
