About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Hot spot
  • Innovative
Callie represents Chef Travis Swikard's debut solo project after spending a decade working alongside the esteemed Chef Daniel Boulud in New York City. The restaurant’s name, "Callie," comes from the Greek word "kallos," meaning "the most beautiful," and embodies its blend of Mediterranean cuisine with local ingredients and terroir, from sea to land from San Diego, Swikard's hometown. In 2022, Callie was acclaimed as one of America's top new restaurants by Esquire and Robb Report, and received both a Bib Gourmand and a Plate from the Michelin Guide. Callie is a dedicated supporter of Feeding San Diego, having contributed over 1 million meals to those in need in San Diego since its launch. Swikard is set to open his second restaurant in La Jolla in 2025.

From the OpenTable editors: Chef and San Diego native Travis Swikard is an alum of iconic restaurants like DANIEL, and that pedigree shines at this sophisticated Mediterranean spot named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2022. Feast on plates like lemon saffron linguine or harissa-grilled lamb chops, or go all-in on a five-course family-style tasting menu. Either way, a meal in the inviting space decked with blue tiles and lush greenery feels like a lively dinner party on every visit.

One of the best meals we’ve ever experienced. Wonderful service. Cocktails were outstanding, especially the clarified Margarita that was a special.

We ordered the curated menu, and every dish was super salty and incorporated some variety of pickled food or heavy lime (even the dessert). Each individual dish might’ve been ok alone, but incorporated together as a curated menu was not a good balance and experience.

Perfection from beginning to end! We had to wait a month to get a reservation for a Friday night, but it was well worth the wait. We were seated promptly and the sommelier recommended a wonderful Spanish wine that paired very well with our meal choices. We had the eggplant dip as an appetizer, a beets, labneh and orange salad; and the lamb Ragout Pappardele as our entree. Absolutely everything was perfectly seasoned and so delicate in flavor! At the end of the evening, we wanted to start it all over again. Quite a memorable experience and the best meal we had in our whole San Diego trip.
