Welcome to Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, where Japanese Soul Food meets American BBQ by James Beard Nominated Chef Michael Lewis. “Japanese Smokehouse” is defined as merging Japanese ingredients and flavors with American BBQ techniques, and everything in between.

Menu highlights include light and refreshing dishes such as Wagyu Tataki with house kimchee, yuzu kosho and savory soy or Tuna Takaki with fire roasted peppers + ponzu, to bolder flavors such as Smoked Pastrami Short Rib with toasted rye, fire roasted kimchi + yuzu pickles. We are currently open 5 days a week for Dinner as we navigate after Hurricane Helene.

Please note, our dining room consists of booths, regular tables and high-tops. We will try our best to accommodate you at your prefer location, but sometimes it is not possible due to party size. Our outdoor tables can be requested but not guaranteed when booking on open table.

Dishes may not come out in the following order. Please note, the full table must order the menu and no substitutions may be made.

    Due to this year’s Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday, the team at Ukiah didn’t want you to fret about snagging your table to celebrate your special one. The team will be running their “lover’s specials’ all weekend long. Chef Michael Lewis and Ian O’Shaughnessy have created a special tasting menu offered Friday through Sunday to share at the table, perfect for your group. The menu will feature dishes such as Salmon Crispy Rice and Smoked Trout Roe, Watercress Salad with Roasted Beets, Miso Mustard and Nori and Skirt Steak with Crispy Onions and Buttery Truffle. Don’t want to commit to the full tasting experience, don’t worry! We will be offering the full a la carte menu, as well as seats at the bar for those last-minute guests.

    My family and I had a wonderful meal, the food and service were superb as usual. Apologies but my two year old son grabbed the fire alarm handle (his older brother was holding him and didn’t realize how close he was to the fire alarm). Please contact us once you receive a bill from the fire department. We were mortified to see all the fire trucks arrive!

    We did the chef’s table and everything was absolutely delicious. The brisket was the tenderest I have ever had and just melted in your mouth. We will be back!

    The staff was so kind and understanding of our groups poor time management and us not having our full group at our scheduled time. The food was beyond delicious, I could eat the Beech mushroom tempura everyday. We were there for our friends Birthday they surprised her with a bday candles in the dessert and it was a great touch to a perfect dinner.

    Our server was over worked , did not have time to take care of us. We were told the kitchen was “free flowing” which meant that dishes came out at different times. I received my plate 45 minutes before my husband was served. It’s overpriced and not worth going back.

    An anniversary to remember at Ukiah. Food was over the top in taste and appearance. Tremendous restaurant experience. Christopher was attentive and all staff made everyone feel great. What a wonderful restaurant.

    Incredible experience. Alex was our server and he made wonderful recommendations. Highlights include the tuna tataki and the gyoza. Will definitely be back!
