    The service completely ruined our birthday dinner. Our server was disengaged the entire time—never checked in, didn’t ask if we wanted another cocktail, and dropped off the check without seeing if we needed anything else. When he returned with my card, he didn’t even say thank you or good night. His lack of effort and attention really put a damper on what was supposed to be a special celebration. It’s disappointing because everything else was fantastic. The hostess welcomed us warmly, and the food was absolutely amazing. If the service had matched the quality of the food and atmosphere, this would have been a perfect night. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed what should have been a memorable birthday dinner.

    We love Butcher and the Bear. The restaurant itself is cozy with a great vibe. They have a nice bar upfront and a couple of levels of seating. We were seated on the lower level which is sort of like dining in a wine cellar. The food is great. We enjoyed oysters, meatballs, pasta, fish and steak. Everything was incredible and we finished our evening with some incredible gelato. We will certainly return!

    You seem to be rushed The waiter was not happy I brought my own wine and paid the corkage fee they intentionally give you the smaller wine glasses They don not understand that if you bring a wine bottle it is usually from a collector My wine was from my cellar from the 1990’s They should be honored that you have selected such a fine wine to eat their food

    The sea bass with tomato and olive sauce is very savory and the fish is moist and perfectly cooked. The braised octopus is very tender and delicious. We also had the rosemary focaccia with beef tallow candle that’s fun and the tallow is very flavorful. The bone in ribeye was the daily special. It’s not as flavorful as other dishes we enjoyed. The cocktail choices were classic and well executed.

    High end steak house yet I thought good value. I had the lam chops. Were 4 very large and tasted great. Sides were large portions. All salads can be shared. Get the Focaccia with Wagyu tallo. Definitely worthwhile if in Chicago!

    We decided to go out last minute for a steak and go somewhere where we have never been. Found some good reviews on Reddit and OpenTable. Great decor, great ambience, food and steaks are out of this world. Our server was very attentive and polite. Wine selection was appropriate. Would definitely go back. Next time we will Uber. Typical Lincoln Park parking troubles.

    Just as last time we were there, the experience was wonderful. The steak was amazing, the best we have had in the city. We can’t wait to go there again!
