Argentina-raised John Rattagan was the family grill master from an early age, in a country where the asado (barbecue) enjoys near sacred status. Luckily for London, he left his homeland as a young man and set up Buen Ayre in the heart of trendy Hackney. The headline act is the steaks, served in a range of cuts with a simple garnish.     Back to Buen Ayre after 10 years just to try the amazing back in the day well known Buen Ayre parrillada with a shortRib. What a sad surprise when the parrillada arrived and there was not ShortRub. :( When I asked the waitress she said I should’ve asked first if what it is on the menu was available?

    one of my favourite restaurants in london. scrap that, one of my favourite anywhere. if you’re a meat lover it’s the very best of the Argentinian steakhouse experience. when that hot plate comes out with generous, perfectly cooked ‘hunks’ of meat and provolone melting by its side, you can’t help regret any stomach space you’ve wasted in the previous 24 hours. Venue itself has an unpretentious, authentic feel to it, and the staff are always cool, easy going & friendly. just an all round great experience, and very reasonably priced. the only negative - it takes over an hour for me to get there from north west london!
