We were excited for this restaurant, but disappointed & did not feeling overly welcome. The service was good, however definitely felt an unwelcoming energy from staff.

We had eaten at Black Eyed Susan’s a long time ago, and remembered it fondly. Quite honestly, you want to root for the place. It’s small, and the kitchen is right behind the counter. It’s so hard to run a restaurant on this island and everybody is so picky. But this was pretty much a bust for us. We had salads and asparagus to start. The white asparagus was bland and the dollop of sauce didn’t help enough. Pasta had a couple of chunks of tomato and no visible basil. The arugula salad had literally three shavings of fennel and a tiny sliver of orange. It all felt uninspired and stingy. A few of the leaves were yellow. The fish was bland. BYOB means a nine dollar service charge per person in the party. Sort of like paying half of the price for a glass of wine, but still having to provide it yourself. With four appetizers and four entrées our bill came to over $400 with tip. I don’t see us going back.

The linguine with clam sauce was very disappointing . Mushy pasta, almost non existent clams and needing all spices . More garlic, red pepper, etc. will not be going back for dinner

We sat at the counter last night to a fantastic dinner made right in front of t of us. We love the counter to watch and befriend the 2 chef’s at work. I had the special halibut with a seasonal risotto and a sauce that was to die for. Absolutely delicious. Many things are spicy so just ask for less spice if you so desire. BYOB allows for the price to be very reasonable and the service was friendly, funny and so accommodating. Truly a 10 star restaurant!!
