   We love French food and tried Benoit for the first time for a 5p reservation on a Friday evening between Christmas and New Year's Eve. We were seated at a table that would have confined us when the restaurant was still quite empty and were kindly moved. Great! The sommelier was cranky, and admittedly tired, and explained that he had thousands of bottles of wine to count. Sure, but that is not really our concern, just be kind. He was not. As the room filled up, we got our bread basket far behind other customers getting theirs. I playfully asked that waiter, "Oh is that last one for us?" Our primary waiter was arrogant and quite cool with us. We ordered onion soup and escargot for a first course. The soup was delicious, the escargot overcooked with a little piece of toast on each. We ordered poulet roti --roasted chicken--for two. The chicken was fine, but far too much food for the two of us. When I commented on the amount of food he called my order a "rookie mistake." Rude and dismissive. I asked him politely why he didn't advise us to order less, and he said he had no idea how hungry we were. Rude, dismissive, rude. In short, in a city with hundreds of French restaurants, some on the same block, we won't go back to Benoit. We work hard for our money, and part of what is lovely about going out is being treated hospitably while enjoying wonderful food and ambiance. That did not happen at Benoit.

   We had a wonderful Christmas dinner at Benoit. It is one of our favorite spots. Can't wait to return.

   The filet and the duck were superb. Could have given another slice of duck. Vege on plate were excellent Fries were nothing special. Mouse for dessert was excellent. Crème brûlée was good but do small. I think they were a little stingy with their servings. They came around way too much pushing for drinks.

   Restaurant agréable, personnel accueillant mais prix excessif pour les plats proposés ( tant au niveau de la qualité que de la quantité). Au niveau prix, repas de Noël pour 3 personnes avec 1 verre de vin par personne, plus de 500$.

    The food was a bit disappointing, the atmosphere and the service were excellent. French onion soup was the highlight of the menu.
