Indian Fine Dining Restaurant with British Flair in the Heart of Mayfair.

Benares Restaurant and Bar since its opening in 2003 has been considered one of the finest Indian Restaurants in the city.

Guests enter an elegant lounge with hand-crafted India inspired furniture and is complemented by a beautiful pond decorated with fresh flowers, creating a luxurious aesthetic.

Benares has 4 private dining rooms, three of which are around the lounge: the Berkeley Room which seats up to 16 guests, the Sommeliers Table which seats up to 10 guests and a Chefs Table overlooking the kitchen which seats up to 8 guests. The lounge area leads into the main dining room which can accommodate up to 80 guests. Our largest private dining area, the Dover room seating up to 36 guests is on the other side of the main dining room.

Benares can be hired for exclusive events accommodating 100 guests for a sit-down dinner and 250 guests for a standing reception.

Was really looking forward to this as had been on the wish list for ages. Really disappointed. Not Michelin star by any measure. £135 for a tasting menu which was of no better quality of 1000s of Indian Restaurants who would charge £40/50 for the same ( if not better food) . Very noisy so you couldn’t hear fellow diners and had to wait about 40 mins to place a wine order . £13 for a bottle of water was taking the p. And the decor was tired even though I think it had recently been renovated. On the plus side the Venison dish was very good but wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t go back.

Wow! Out of this world experience. The food was on another level and the pairing wine the waiter selected , complemented the good fully. The level of service was as good as I’ve been to. Would recommend this to anyone ..

A beautiful restaurant, authentic chique decorarion in a medium state, very helpful people. We were put into a “private room” as our son is 5 years old. Up upon the food experience, presentation was rather poor. As we are experienced Michelin stars guests, price level compared with plating techniques and service were not conform price level. We have mixed feelings wether a charged tip is suitable for a michelin star restaurant while we already gave tip. Our table session took no longer than 1 hour with a similar experience to non-michelin star restaurants. Good but not outstanding.

Being a Michelin star restaurant the food was hit or miss, we had New Years Eve dinner with a pre fixed menu. For the ambience and the quality of food it was not a good value for money. Some courses served were too salty or too spicy, lacked balance. For over £400 for dinner of 2 I would never recommend it.

The food was outstanding. The Samudri thali, my personal favorite, was a highlight, while the Peshawari kulcha was absolutely delicious and the Murg Makhni was quite good. However, the service could use some improvement and fine-tuning.

A nice meal but the food was just ‘good’ and we thought it was incredibly expensive for what was essentially just a decent curry. We also felt rushed by the friendly staff despite there being several empty tables when we were there. It was quite busy with tourists but nothing that warranted rushing a very expensive meal. So in summary, a nice meal with a nice waiter but really not worth the expensive cost.
