From the OpenTable editors: Chef Johnny Curiel grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico, and started washing dishes in his dad’s restaurant at age 14. Today, the Michelin Guide considers him the best young chef in Colorado and awarded one star to his first solo restaurant Alma Fonda Fina. In a light-filled corner space filled with warm ceramics and woven textiles, he puts out soulful and modern Mexican fare—think seared hamachi aguachile, lamb shank birria, and tacos folded with a 12-hour brisket confit.

Join us in our intimate dining room of only 28 seats. We invite guests to relax in a space accented by reclaimed wood, — sourced from the oldest building in Denver — clay-inspired wall treatment, an abundance of plants that evoke the feeling of Mexico City, and artisan finds from Johnny’s home state of Guadalajara.

The restaurant ran out of the Birria shank after we ordered it and also I was glutened from one of the items (they did warn of cross contamination). Service was amazing:

Best we’ve had in Denver in a long time. Note however that should the Denver Mayor succeed in adding his 0% service fee to restaurants, we will no longer cross the line from the suburbs to come dine in Denver. Ever.

The entire staff was wonderful from start to finish. Not stuffy, not judgmental, just friendly and kind. The food was sublime. Everything we had was peak divine. The Tetela Frite teleported me to straight to Mexico, a country I have traveled extensively and love with all of my heart. The scallop was heaven sent. The comote was a flavor explosion, the prime rib was out of this world. I loved every second there and every single bite. I’m so grateful to have had this experience.

The absolute best halibut that I’ve ever had! Everything was so delicious. Just wish it wasn’t so hard to get a rsvp. But so worth the wait

We sat at the counter and William took care of us. He was wonderful- really we were taken care of by all the staff. Would go back again and again. The food was a treat and affordable compared to other Michelin stars in Denver.

Our experience at Alma Fonda Fina was 5+ Stars! Hands down one of the best food experiences we’ve had in Denver and we’ve lived here since 2007! The service was amazing, ambience was perfect, the food was insanely delicious, the drinks were out of this world! We booked our next reservation before walking out the door and we cannot wait to go back!
