Located at 40 Brattle Street in Harvard Square, Alden & Harlow serves thoughtfully sourced, honest American food in a subterranean, modern and comfortable space. Replicating the style of cooking he does for family and friends in his home kitchen, Chef Michael Scelfo prepares humble, unpretentious food that honors tradition of place in its quality. It's how he connects with anyone who joins them at their table.

While reservations are strongly suggested, we also save a portion of the dining room and bar for walk-ins in the event that your request cannot be accommodated. So please, come on in!

We were a party of 4 and were seated at the high top tables at the kitchen. Overall the dinner was quite well, our server was perfectly attentive and definitely deserves a 5 star rating, very helpful. We ordered 7 different dishes, the Steak Tatar, another steak dish (maybe flak steak?) and the duck leg pierogi were great, the focaccia bread was a bit too grilled and was very dry and the spicy chicken ravioli was quite bland. I enjoyed the dinner and look forward to trying some more of the other dishes on the menu. Great restaurant overall, even though the noise was quite high where we were seated.

The restaurant had a warm, inviting atmosphere with attentive service. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, with fresh ingredients and thoughtful presentation. The best part of the menu is undoubtedly the cocktails. Prices were reasonable for the quality. Overall, a great dining experience—I’d definitely come back again!

My husband and often celebrate birthdays or anniversaries here. We always love the food. Try their secret burger, you won’t regret it! The service is also great - friendly and appropriately attentive. They are there when needed, but do not feel rushed. Highly recommend. Might want to consider reservation, as they fill up quickly.

Brunch was delicious - the caramelized onion dip was so creamy and intense, the broccoli were perfectly seasoned with sweet and salty cashews and hummus, and the pancakes were light and fluffy but also with crisp edges. The only issue is one entree came almost 45 minutes later than the rest of the party’s dishes.

The food is creative and delicious! The portions are sufficient for 4 people to share. Every choice (including deserts) are fantastic! The music is a little load for people over the age of 20, so ask for a quiet table (they do exist and the staff is very accommodating). This is a fantastic place - a real gem.
