34 is Chef Emeril Lagasse’s first restaurant dedicated to the cuisine of his Portuguese heritage. He was inspired by his late mother, Hilda, who influenced his interest in cooking when he was a child growing up in Fall River, MA. The 245-seat restaurant is adorned in shades of green – Emeril’s signature color – wood accents and ornate Portuguese tiles. A painting of a rooster, a national Portuguese symbol of good luck, greets guests at the entrance. Once inside, a jamon bar with countertop service and tile-clad DJ booth are focal points of the space. The restaurant celebrates not only the food and design of Portugal but also the sounds, with music from local and touring DJs.

This was my 3rd time visiting 34. We have sat in the bar area several times, and tonight we were sat at a bar table. We brought several guests and had the pleasure of trying 10 snacks and small plate menu items. The cocktails are unique, and all great. The O Cravo, Porto by Night, and Nordes G&T are favorites. As far as food goes, the Pica Pau, Shrimp San Miguel, Tomate, and Batatas Bravas along with any of the snacks are standouts. I’d recommend ordering the bread service there are many sauces to try. You may be unfamiliar with the menu items, but the wait staff is very eager to explain dishes and make recommendations. Our waiter was Jesús, and he was very helpful and attentive. I recommend this restaurant highly. Go in with an open mind, ready to try something new! What makes it great is that there is nothing like it in New Orleans.

Expected it to be a super corporate environment with good food and ok service, but it was so much better. Food was great. Service was outstanding. Staff was super relaxed and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Lovely interior space. We will be back!

From the moment everything was amazing. Everyone knew the menu so helpful. Our waiter was such a great friendly guy always smiling. You can tell they were acutely glad we were there…we run place. Food well prepared

The style of the restaurant is lovely and the service is excellent. We had the Portugese Blood Sausage and the Sardines to start ... they were both excellent. We also ordered the bread service which came with 3 different breads and butters. We then had the lettuces bit were a bit disappointed as the charted romaine was a bit mushy in some places and the flavor was unimpressive. We ended with the octopus which was tender and delicious. Overall, it was good meal and I would like to try more on the menu.

Very expensive! Very small serving for a table the lobster was fishy and chewy not fresh. The rice was very good. The basque cheesecake was delicious.

Our party of 7 were excited for an exceptional evening of fine dining. Outside of the beautiful, top notch decor, our meal was less than optimal. With a bill of $750 with 2 of our main dishes comped, all of the guest were disappointed and left perplexed having seen Emeril Lagasse also dining tonight. I reluctantly leave this review with the hopes of improving others’ dining experiences.
