Experience Casual Elegance at 1931 in Cincinnati's Historic Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel

Tucked away in downtown Cincinnati's iconic Hilton Netherland Plaza, the 1931 invites you to dine in sophisticated style. This art deco jewel evokes the glamour of a bygone era with its soaring painted ceilings, marble columns, and Rookwood pottery. While the setting transports you back in time, the cuisine is decidedly modern, with American fare and creative cocktails.

The versatile menu features breakfast classics like fluffy pancakes and savory eggs benedict. Lunch brings soups, salads, and sandwiches, while dinner tempts with dishes like Citrus-Glazed Salmon, Peppercorn-crusted Ribeye, and Pappardelle & Braised Beef Short Rib Ragout.

Whether you're seeking breakfast, lunch, or romantic dinner, the 1931 excellent service ensures a memorable experience. Its proximity to the convention center, theatres, and stadiums is also a convenient pre-event spot for a bite and cocktails.

We were seated for our 11:00 reservation a few minutes after 11:00. Our first contact with our server was at 11:20. She advised us that the kitchen was changing over from breakfast to lunch and it would be 20 minutes before she could take our order. I can’t speak to the food or drinks because we were unable to wait. Not sure what is happening to this beautiful restaurant, it was real disappointing.

Upon arriving for our reservation we had to wait on our table even though it was rather empty . When we were seated it took 10 minutes for anyone to come for a drink order. When the waitress finally came over it was merely to say she’d be right back. I asked a bus boy for service and he went to track her down again. She then came and explained we couldn’t order just one or two items off the menu and it was $110 per plate and as someone who doesn’t eat much I didn’t want 5 courses. The menu was very lack luster as well. We finally ordered drinks and after waiting for those prob an additional 10 minutes we got up and left. We ended up walking into Ruth Chris and had great service and a fantastic meal , then popped into Jeff Ruby’s for after dinner drinks and also had great service.

Restaurant was like stepping back into time. Decor fit the name and the service was nice. Food was nothing special and took along time and was not hot just warmed. The chicken was half a breast and a small drummy definitely not worth the price. The dining area only had 4 of us but the bar was full, so maybe the drinks are better than the food. Nothing worth coming back for should I visit Cincinnati again.

Nothing like it used to be. We were excited to take out of town guests for Sunday brunch. Made reservations 2 months ago. The ambiance was as remembered. Just lovely. There was a choice of using the buffet or ordering from the menu. Our server discouraged ordering from the menu as it would take very long to get your food. The buffet was about 1/8 of what it used to be. It was more like a self serve breakfast at a Marriott or Radisson that’s included in your stay. (Except there was salmon and roast beef) We will not be back.

The most beautiful hall in Cincinnati envelops you with the charm of its past and the splendor of its decorations. In such an imposing setting, however, the service, as well as the selection and presentation of dishes, falls short. There is a stark contrast between the luxurious ambiance and the level of dining offered, even if good. Only the orchestra lived up to the grandeur, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the glories of the past. For the sake of Cincinnati, I hope efforts will be made to recover and better preserve this historic institution, restoring it to the illustrious heights of fine dining it once enjoyed, and ensuring its legacy endures.

The restaurant was understaffed-as most are these days-and they were far from full. Our server was friendly and working hard but needed help clearing tables and refilling water. Everything was slow, the ambiance/decor was not what we hoped from the revitalized historical landmark on a major holiday. Instead, it was dated and dull which felt even worse for Christmas dinner. We left just accepting it was Christmas and hard to find people to work, but our night got worse after the meal was over. When we arrived at the valet stand, it was empty. But there weren’t people waiting on a car to suggest the valet was out. Instead we waited 10+ minutes with no one in sight. When I rode the elevator back to the front desk to see if they could help, I was rudely told, “there’s nothing I can do, he must have stepped out. By the time you get back down there, he’ll probably be back.” I rode back down to valet and a guy finally came out form somewhere. When he asked if we were ready for our car, I said yes, we’ve been waiting awhile. He rudely said, I was only gone 3 minutes.” Very disappointing service for such a high profile, high-end restaurant on a special occasion.

Cocktails and wine small pours for price. Expected it to be very busy with live music based on previous visits ( before pandemic) and limited reservation availability but no on both, it’s Christmas! Have gotten much better value at other higher end places for the $250 we spent.

Christmas Day reservation at the bar thru Open Table. Website said holiday with music, etc. I specifically instant messaged to ask about menu, as the website was unclear. Was told it would be a limited DINNER menu with an extra choice of a duck leg. Was told holiday music, etc. Offered only a lunch menu Slow service lack of a holiday deco -staff upset they were working and very slow. Very very disappointed. Food good. That’s the savior of our experience.

Been going to the Dickens, brunch for over 20 years. There’s a reason we’ve been going that long, the food ,the atmosphere, and the service. The Christmas carolers sing table side and the decorations do help put you in Christmas spirit.
