Had reservations, arrived early, and was seated promptly…ordered cocktails, they were great!! Ordered the lobster bique to share, and it was okay, only one small piece of lobster and a puff pastry on top….i prefer the bisque from Lattitudes much more….my wife’s filet was served overcooked…took 10 minutes to replace, and it looked like they brought a 6 oz out instead of 8oz….the au poivre sauce tased like cleaning agent…the manager said the chef told him that is what traditional French cooking tastes like….(Really???!!)…brought out a compound butter to try after another long pause, but it was ice cold and the filet was no longer warm…that was a problem with all of our food, poor serving temperature…it had rested wayyy too long….pork chop was overdone as well, it was good, but not great…the asparagus left a lot to be desired…the Jacob’s way potatoes and mushrooms were great as well, but at this price point, you have to hit on all 8 cylinders….the manager gave us a free dessert and a $25 gift card to return….after scewing up a $60 meal???That was the last slap in the face i plan on getting from this establishment…IF we return, it will be on my wife’s dime…I was NOT impressed…

Lovely food preparation and presentation. The eclectic venue, rewards diners with a kitschy upholstery, high tin ceiling and current light fixtures. The food was all delicious.

The food was great, but we were disappointed that three of the bottles of wine that we wanted to order were sold out. We did enjoy the champagne that was provided for the birthday celebration

This restaurant knocked it out of the park! Hands down, it was the best meal and service we've experienced since moving from the DC area three years ago. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the elegant yet inviting atmosphere—sophisticated decor, perfect lighting, and soft background music that created an intimate but lively ambiance. Despite the small space, the layout is well-designed, ensuring a comfortable dining experience even when the restaurant is full. The service was exceptional—polished, attentive, and truly professional. Our server, Stacey, made our night out perfect. Every dish was a masterpiece, from the top-tier ingredients to the stunning presentation and perfectly balanced flavors. Yes, it’s on the expensive side, but every bite proved it was worth it. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

This was our first time eating st 1870 and it did not disappoint. I got the lobster bisque and filet with mashed potatoes. My wife got the butternut squash soup and chicken breast with potatoes au gratin. Everything was delicious with no complaints. We finished with the blueberry lavender cheesecake. My wife did not care for the flavor but I liked it. On top of all of this the service was impeccable. Food was spaced out perfectly and nothing ever felt rushed. It was a great atmosphere. Dinner was pricey but we knew that going in and it was definitely worth it. We do not treat ourselves often to a restaurant like this so we were happy it was such a great experience. I would have no problem returning.
