Contrary to popular belief, JJ's Restaurant is not named for popular owner Jimmy Frantzé. In 1985, Jimmy purchased JJ Malane's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. Malane's went away, but JJ's remained, and a West Plaza fine dining icon was born. We love going to Ocean Prime early for cocktails and sushi. Easily the best sushi in Kansas City. Our favorite server Mikaela makes us feel welcome each time which makes all the difference in the world. Great vibe. Great food. Fabulous service. Highly recommend.

The restaurant is in a beautiful space. The seating was comfortable, our waitress attentive but not intrusive. The food was fabulous. We both started with an excellent cup of crab chowder. My entree was the scallops in a stew base. I loved it and would definitely recommend. My husband had two small plates instead of an entree, their version of a wedge salad and an Ahi Tuna Tostada. He liked both. We shared a chocolate dessert that was awesome. The only caution is a high noise level. It did not impair our enjoyment but we did lean in to speak across the table. All in all, an enjoyable evening.
